what do you all do for alarms?

im going to need one, i want something high quality that will remote start, pop my hatch and be able to signal a pager, or come with one. i want as much pager range as possible. i dont know much about alarms, i had a viper on my old camaro and it was decent but this was 4 years ago. how difficult is it to install, because the shops around here want insane amounts of money, like 600 for an installed alarm. i was thinking i'd spend 150-300 on the alarm and add ons, then spend a few days installing it.

anyone know of any forums like this but for alarm information?

I have this information for a Firebird... but imagine they are the same:

Constant 12V+: Red in Ignition Switch Harness

Starter: Yellow in Ignition Switch Harness

Ignition: Pink in Ignition Switch Harness

Accessory: Orange in Ignition Switch Harness

Tach: White in Coil

Brake Switch: White in Brake Switch

Trunk Pin: White (-) in Cargo Compartment Light

Parking Lights: Brown in Light Switch

Head Lamp: Yellow in Light Switch

Hood Pin: n/a, have to install your own

Factory Disarm: n/a

Door Trigger: White (-) in Driver's Pin Switch

Door Lock: Light Blue in Driver's Kick Panel

Door Unlock: Black in Positive Trigger

Horn Wire: Black (-) in Steering Column

That is just information I have, I do not know if it is 100% correct. Check all wires before using them to insure that they are indeed correct. I assume no responsibility for any mistakes in the wiring information.

I wouldn't recommend installing your own alarm.

Installing alarms on older cars like that is easy do it yourself for sure. I'd look for something by DEI(viper, python, etc..) or an UNGO.
