Total Audio Set up

Recommended Posts

I have a 1989 Buick park avenue in dire need of a system. the factory concert sound II is awesome for a stock system, but its still stock. i Am looking for a pure SQ set up. i have no interest in being very loud, just want to hear my music at its best from its highest to its lowest.

i have 6 3/4' components in the front and 6x9s in the rear.

the CONCRETE-

- i am using a audio control DQL 8 to give my amps signal. factory radio is staying.

-Box must be smaller than 18x18x17. the smaller the better.

-Front and rear stages are going to stay. no adds, no removals.

-box will be SEALED to the pass compartment.

what i want-

- high quality, unaltered mindbogglingly awesome sound, using a set of components, 6x9s and one sub.

I HAD a full set up, but upon thinking it over and finding out RE audio isnt as good as it used to be, im going back to the drawing board.

dont want to spend over $2000 for all the components. if its worth spending more though, i will.

A DCON 12" in an optimal sealed enclosure would be a nice substage.

What do you have for front components?

Any amplifiers?

My suggestion, go to a couple of SQ competitions, set and listen to a few vehicles to find the particular sound YOU want. Then go from there. a set of components and a sub, sorry sir, theres ALOT more to it. Check out some build logs on this forum. Read some of the Competition rules for the dynamics requirements. Best of luck to ya sir. SQ can become a addiction if not careful. Trust me I'm hooked.

If your talking about the RE XXX components, I got a set from Audio Savings for $269 shipped.

Also, I think I would go for a aftermarket HU, you'll get a lot more customization than with just a EQ.

everything is stock, so no amps that im aware of. i am keeping the factory head unit. the features of a DQL 8 surpass that of most head units anyways. it has 8 EQ presets.

i am a OEM freak. i dont like many things that where not offered on a car from the factory asthetic wise. thats why i simply want to replace the components and 6x9s with the best i can get. the only reason why i want a sub is because speakers dont allow you to feel the music.

i was looking at getting an FI sub, just wasnt quite sure if the Q 12 is what im looking for.

I would suggest doing at least one mod, and that is converting the 6x9s to 6.5" holes for components. If you just want 6x9s, you'll be stuck with coaxials as far as I know (Haven't seen any 6.5" plate components), and those are not good for SQ. You'll still be able to keep the factory grills so it will still look factory, just make a little mounting plate that covers the 6x9 hole and has an opening for a round 6.5" instead.

As for components, I would pick raw drivers from a place like Madisound and integrate them together with active crossovers, either on the amplifiers or an external electronic crossover.
