should i still consider AQ

Recommended Posts

I keep reading topics where people say hdc's really perform after u put a 2200 on it. I got two md2ds and was going to put one on each sub. 1500 a piece. But if they won't perform until 2200 should I still consider these? If not what's a better choice? DC lvl 4xl? Xcon?

Subs don't "come alive with x watts". You can power it with 1500w easily and get even better results than with 2200w if you optimise the box to the power you have. Not that you will actually hear the extra 700w.

For starters, what are your goals ? Maybe the HDC isn't for you ;)

I want to efficiently run these md2ds and knock the block. I want to actually understand what I'm doing before I enter comps. I picked AQ because of price and can handle the wattage but haven't bought them yet.

get the copper coils...they will love the 1500 watts...im running a saz1500d on my hdc3 with aluminum coils and it slams like hell.

Why do you say get the copper coils.. If you got aluminum on yours?

Asking because I'm thinking about some hdc3's myself :)

if u have less than 2500watts then get copper and more than that get the aluminum coil. Thats on each sub.. I was trying to decide between the icon,fi bl,and aq hdc3 for a 12 and decided on a fi bl but i would go for the xcon if i had the cash.

i ran one off 600w before and it still gets loud.

We are just sayin the recommended power ratings are for the maximum power we would suggest, not what it wants.

i bought mine used and it just happened to have the aluminum coils. i was just telling you what i have and even though its rated at 1000 watts u can def run more to it. also, i heard that the aluminums have different spiders...idk if that makes any difference or not but the guy i got my sub from said he liked the spiders on the aluminum better than the spiders on the copper.

^^ this ^^

and you cant "underpower" a sub. they play what you tell them to, and if that is only 600 watts, thats what they will play with. It only becomes a problem when you start throwing too much at them and you dont know what you're doing. the box has a lot to do with it.

I was just making sure ill be able to knock with 1500 per sub since I mostly read "put 2200 on them." Now my question is since u say "maybe an hdc is not for me" what do you mean?

if u like it loud then it's for you. From my gatherings... u want it.

copper coil HDC is more efficient and will get louder off less power. I've tested numerous copper/alum HDC's in diff VC configs, box sizes, and tuning.

Since you plan to run 1500watts to each sub then I'd go on the "big" side of recommended enclosure specs.

what size subs do you plan on getting?
