Never Competed but thought about it? I welcome you to!

Recommended Posts

I see a lot of people gettin into car audio lately with some pretty decent setups, a lot better than the average joe going to the shop to have their stuff installed.

Any of you ever thought about competing?

I used to be like a bunch of you...

Thinking competition is too professional. Been doin it for years, know way more than what you may know...

Well you know what. That's not the case at all!

Many people i have met over the past several months are newcomers who have grown a lot since their first competition.

You meet many people who have plenty of knowledge to share. You gain knowledge and the respect of the car audio world.

I had been in the competition scene for several years before i started competing which was actually just last October at MECA, the 1st sanctioned division i have competed with.

If you live on the East Coast, central to southside, there are many MECA shows to attend!

I highly recommend attending and competing at these shows to gain further knowledge about your equipment, your install and your vehicle.

After being to several shows, you will see how much respect you gain about the car audio world itself and tend to grow maturity-wise about the whole hobby.

There are MANY of us who compete. Many of us are members here on SSA.

We are here to help in anyway possible. I like to meet new competitors and existing ones because there is never enough knowledge and experience to go around :)

If you have any questions about MECA or competition, in general, ask me before reading the rulebook.

The rulebook may seem overwhelming at first. That's why you should ask a competitor to summarize things up first prior to competing so it doesn't seem like you are jumping into something you know nothing about.

I hope this post brings more competitors to the MECA association as I always love to meet newcomers to the hobby.

Hope to see you soon as the year progresses.

I'm sure I'd be into it if there was anything worth while in MN.

We have MidWest SPL around this area, which seems to be a decent organization.

I guess I was more or less talking about something close, twin cities area. Everything near me is quite a drive.

Any quality dealers in the area that are willing to get some competitions going? Everything in South Dakota is 100 mile drive to a comp ... rolleyes.gif

I have a confession ... I started out on the SSA forum very wrong. For that "I Apologise".

I am a competitor at heart, been that way for years. Car and Truck shows and sound competitions.

I enjoy everything about car audio and all general show n shines !!!

USACI is also a very fun environment. You learn alot about the sport.

Please come out to events like these and hang out and have a great time.

Shizzon I support you 100% on this. I hope to compete in MECA next year, but this year I have goals in USACI.

Thanks and best of luck to all competitors alike ... Randal aka THE CABLGUY ...

I honestly have no idea. But if there were I'm sure it'd be listed on minnesota's loudest's forum. Most of the stuff they go to, which has been listed here in some thread, is a decent drive north.

I saw the post for the MW SPL shows up in the Brainerd area, that is a drive from the metro area.

I am definitely competing one day. I want to have one of the loudest cars in Bulgaria and will do anything to deserve this status. One day... one day.

I'll be honest with you upfront-

MECA is mostly based on the Eastcoast.

The Commissioner, Steve Stern, actually setup some shows in CA and some have already happened this year!

Here is the part that sucks-

World Finals is held at only one place... typically in Tennessee.

So, for people who live on the other side of the country... it may not be worthwhile to compete in this sanction if you are planning on attending world finals.

Now, you can still hold State records in this sanction, but world finals is usually always held in Tennessee and is a 2day event.

If still interested, let me know.

You still have IASCA and USACI to look into.

There is no MECA down south or DB Drag for that matter.

But USACi is VERY big!!! If you have never attended a competition i encourage you to!!

I'm not for sure.

MECA is-

Amateur Street

Street

Modified

Radical

Basically-

AS - car is off, can only use songs, no test tones, no more than 1 extra battery and VERY strict ruling about what material can be used in vehicle... no tape of any kind, no resin, foam, etc... TOTAL install must be in trunk and not protruding.

Street - car can be on @no more than 2,000rpm, u can use test tones but install cant be past trunk but can use any type of material to build it and seal it.

Modified - ANY mod behind B pillar(door jam) is legal, ANY MOD! unlimited charging capacity and voltage.

Radical - Many mods in front of B pillar to certain extents (for the vehicles that prob will never be returned back to stock and be later found in a junkyard, lol)

That's the basics. Pick what u like and u can get the specifics about all restrictions to that class.

I definitely don't mind an hour or so, I just don't want to have to go to Nashville or Memphis, which would turn into an eight or ten hour round trip. Tennessee is a long ass state, haha. If I could find something in Knoxville, Johnson City, Bristol, Chattanooga, or somewhere reasonably close I'd go.
