XCON Box

Recommended Posts

Just throwing this out there, Bromo and myself have been working on this. He says go bigger and I agree but can't do to space constraints. The box for this XCON 15 will have a volume of 3.6 after sub and bracing displacemnt tuned to 33 hz. I listen to hip hop, bass music and just about everything else. Is this box going to hurt the potential of the XCON? Is it to small. Is the tune going to seriously affect the type of music I listen to? Bromo has been a huge help as well as Alton, but I am wanting some other opinions now. Thanks

I think that box sounds about exactly right for an xcon. What amp are you mating with it?

a MTX Thunder Elite 1501, which tested put out 1677 watts @ 1ohm with 14.4 volts.

You could go bigger but 3.6ft^3 would be fine, Im in the same situation as you being able to squeeze like 3.6-3.7 cubes at the max out the trunk without taking away from amp space. Ive never used aeros for the port before but i plan on it this box to gain some volume, you could try this as well.

If you can't fit anymore space, go as is. Maybe consider adding some stuffing if need be.

stuffing on a ported box? I had built a box that was 4 exactly but when i measured the trunk i didn't measure the opening. there was plenty of room if the box could have gotten into the trunk but it was too tall and wide to get thru the opening of a lancer. so i rebuilt this new box fits in the trunk and will allow me to have a decent looking amp rack. I wish i could have put the bigger box in i even considered taking it apart and putting it in in halves but decided that was more work that it was worth. but 3.6 after all displacement will be fine right? no issues with the tune?

We love both subs in both boxes !!!

The first box was the 3.5 ft3 one : it was impressive in his very small car (2 doors Renault Clio) on 1200 watts rms with stock electrical.

I use this box in my car now with a 1500 watts amp : the car is bigger so there is less feeling of pressure in it. But it's loud AND accurate!!!

The second box is bigger, with flared port : you can see it in my avatar.

Both boxes are in my Gallery here. Take a look !

My friend is a box builder for a local shop. But we ordered these box designs from JBL Camry (Fisher Customs). My friend was very very happy : he learned how to make flared ports! First try, first success !!!

He uses 2 sundown saz 1000 strapped on his xcon, and it is sooooo loud now !!!

I can't say that this box sound better than this one : both are well built to specs, with the right port size, 45's everywhere,...

I listened to both but with something different each time : different amps, different electrical systems(big 3 done for him, big 2 for me), different cars,...

Now, my buddy wants a second Xcon and bought my saz 1000. He wants to run each xcon with 2 saz 1000 strapped at 2 ohms in a big box.

I'm waiting for dimensions to ask JBL Camry for a box design.

He will soon order a new xcon and a new saz 1000.

Don't worry so much : throw it in your box and you'll see !!!

Good luck !
