is something wrong with my btl

Recommended Posts

ok so i ordered my sub right around valintines day an it took over a month to get here an i finally got time to build a box this week end an hook it up! it never seen power till to day an i thought my amp was fried at first i couldnt get any sound or movement out of it at all.. so i hooked it up to a friends amp an it barely played so we put it back in my car on my amp. when we did that it finally started to play on my amp.. but it barely moves an you cant even here it hardly unless you get close to the sub. i tryed rewiring it a couple different times an it still just doesnt play hardly.. what is wrong with it? i know it aint the amp because i hooked my tens up an they played just fine! so please help me! its a d1 sub wired to 2ohms because my amp does max at 2ohms! all power wire is 0 gauge speaker wire is 10gauge have yellow top and a xs power d2400 in the back have big 3 done up front! i tryed switching my rca cables out an made no difference have good grounds in the back every thing is working fine except for my btl 15! please help me out!!

when you hooked it up to your friends amp did you use your car or his car? and if you can try to hook up a different sub to the amp and see if it works that might help to narrow down the issue. and check the sub with the DMM like stated before, see what the ohm load is on each coil. dont forget to post any results.

Wen I hooked it up on his amp it was threw his car he backed up an we ran wire from his trunk to mine an I then hooked up a pair of tens to my amp an they played just fine! That's why Im askin if it's my new btl sub?

i think i've seen something like this on here before. the VC may be backwards or something. when looking at the terminals i think the + should always be on the left, maybe check that out?

should the - from the amp be on the left, or the - that goes to the + be on the left?

Sounds kinda like the coils are wired out of phase with each other. Take a small 9v battery and hook it up to each coil. If the sub moves outward, you have the positive on the battery hooked to the positive on the sub. If it sucks in, you have the positive wired to the negative on the sub.

Ok I'll definatly try the battery trick! Do I do that with my wires hooked up? I'm guessing I do but just wana be sure!

Hope that helped!

What about hooking up just 1 coil?

Do me a favor and throw a metal screw or something steel on the magnet..let me know what it does.

So I'm gunna try all the above after I get out of skool today! What am I looking for when I put a screw on the magnet? Do I have to pull the rubber case of the magnet first?

you will see, nope you do not need to take the rubber boot off

So i tryed the battery an it pops both coils but you can't tell wat way the sub moves.. Can't get the magnet to do anything with a screw i just tested each coil they both read .08 ohms then i put my jumper in to connect the coils like i have been an it read 1.6 ohms.. so i dont know wat to do ive tryed alot of different things and im not getting anywhere!

If a screw won't attach onto the magnet, it was not magnetized.

And do you mean both read 0.8 ohms? They can't each read .08 and then 1.6 together.

If you put it in a regular box with no support that driver will become DESTROYED... if you just opened the box recently reuse it.
