Daily driving sub stage

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 tahoe and I am going to change my sub stage. My electrical consists of a 300 amp alt., 4 deka intimidators group 31 in the back, and a intimidator group 34 up front, big three, and two runs of 0 gauge. I want to spend around two grand and my goals are a nice, somewhat "musical" sounding daily driver with a lot of output. I am hoping to hit 150+ at 30 Hz eventually. But if tuning needs to be a bit higher that is fine with me, preferably around 32-33 Hz. I guess that would make me save my goal for another day, but ultimately something above 150 is what I want. The allowable dimensions for my box are roughly W49.5" by H27" by D35", although I am striving for less depth. So, somewhere around 22-24 internal cubes. I have searched for a long time, constantly researching, which has only made my decision harder. I might have my mind set on trying two of the crescendo audio 3KWDs, since they are the same board as the saz 3000 and the atomic 3000, and they are only 540 each. I looked into AQ, hifonics, refurb sundowns, audiopipe, rd, cactus, and many others I am forgetting as well.

So basically, what do you guys think I can do to get this goal? Can any combo of amps and subs along with box tuning and size make this possible for under $2250?

Well you can look into the new Zv.2 and SA series from Sundown, Death Row and Death Penalty from Incriminator, ICON and XCON from SSA, Fi - BL,BTL, AA Mayhem, Havoc and see what Argent and Daber Audio will be offering in the future.

As far as amps the Crescendo's look like a very good amp and a very nice price.

Yeah, I have gone back and forth between SSA, Fi BTLs, IA DPs, AAs, DCs, RDs, exodus, bazooka tubes... Wait a second.. But I would prefer to have the lowest price tag and still be at or above 150 at 30 Hz. Whether it be 21s 18s 15s, don't really care, what set up would you choose?

Bazooka Tubes! .... tongue.gif

Wow that is a hard question to answer.... I would definitley stay away from RD even though I have read that they have been sold.

At that low of frequency I would look into the BTL since your not to worried about SQ. BTL is built to get loud and Fi has a great reputation for getting low.

yeah very true , but SSA gets low like no other , and not pricy either , at 30hz a pair of ICON 15's would hammer like hell , and still have good SQ , thats what i would do , but i am no expert , happy pounding!

Well, I want the best of both worlds I guess haha, but who doesn't. BTL is the only Fi driver I haven't owned/heard so I don't know how it compares to the Bl or Q. Haven't heard the sundowns and I love the SSAs. Could two XCON 18s, 4 ICON 15s, 2 BTl 18s, something like that fit the bill? I could take a trip to mooresville to listen to those sundowns I guess, need to go by charlotte anyway.

Including the IA's you will not be dissapointed by any of them! All quality built by great companies! Toss a coin!

I'm gonna need an oddly shaped coin haha. Too many choices! Do the xcons like that much power?

1750 watts RMS rated

just because you dont meet the exact rms rating, doesnt mean the subs aren't going to be moving a ton of air. you will do fine with a pair on a 3kD.

remember, with the right electrical the 3kD can possibly do more than "just" 3k watts, so either way you will be happy with the xcons

Yeah I was worried about too much on 2 3KWDs, supposed to be 3200-3500 a piece, near doubling the 1750 rating, I am afraid of the thermal handling at low frequencies, if I had a high tuning I wouldn't worry, but mechanical failure... Maybe I'll just do two btl 18s like I intended, 4 xcon 15s would be too expensive :(

If output is your goal, hard to beat the BTL. Yes, it will still sound damn good too with the right box.

If you want a ground pounder that gets loud, low, and sound fucking great, XCON.

There are people hitting 150 with 15's and 3000w so it's not impossible. It would be a shame to build a fart biox with an xcon, but that would be one hell of a nice sounding 40hz. lol

Have you gotten your's metered? I could do 4 15s and maybe a larger amp, AQ3500d or something, that would keep me within my budget... almost haha.

Nope, but hope to soon.

Check out the Member's rides page on here and look at MemphisMazda.

He is pushing 147 + with 2 15's on 3000w in a daily tuned enclosure.

If someone local to me could meter my truck I would do it tomorrow.

Haha, I actually randomly saw him at Cook-Out or McDonalds here in Durham, can't remember which one. He let me hear it in person and it sounded real clean. I am looking for a good bit louder though, I am at 147.8 at about 32 Hz right now, but those 13Av.2s are not very efficient, I have to run my amp at .5 ohm to do that.

From what I have read and seen, I say xcon or btl also. I haven't heard a btl but i'm sure they hit good from what I have seen.

BTL or maybe even the Nightshade.

Either would be more of a high output sub if thats your goal. Tune higher too.

Get 18's if you want loud. I had 15" xcons and now 18's. BIG difference. lol

What do the dc level 5 or 4 xls and the AA mayhems run for? Just a ballpark figure, or I could call after work, but I'm here for another 7 hours today :(

If your wanting loud look into the new Zv.2 from Sundown, DP from IA or BTL from Fi. Not sure on AA or DC no experience with either. Have to remember though it is all about the install. Proper electrical, correct box alignment, amp setup and vehicle will have a lot to do with numbers as well.

You will end with 2 BTL's 18" !

or 2 Sundowns Nightshades (I think I've read somewhere that they don't need huge boxes)

It seems that only 4 18's xcon can pleased you, but it's a lot of money to spend.

Are the zv.2s and nightshades different drivers?

The new Z v.2 are basically the replacement for the Nightshade v.1 and the new Nightshade v.2 are based off Sundowns "Monster" motor design and will be rated at 2500 watts rms!

The new Z v.2 is highly customizable to your needs.
