help in making sure my math is right for gain setting

Recommended Posts

hey guys u have a fi bl 18in dual 1 ohm going to a 1200gto jbl amp at 1200watts rms at 2ohm. i want to make sure that i had this right when i go to set my gains. So i put the 50hz tone. The math is 1200X2(rmsXimdependance) then take the square root of that so i should get 48.98 so when i go to set my gains and i use the volt metter i should set it until i get to 48.98. im pretty sure thats how you do it but just wanna double check dont wanna blow my sub :) im goin to post pics soon the box for it is amazing custom paint by friend

That is correct. But you still need to be careful. You didn't mention what, if any, options you got with the BL. The standard sub's RMS is 1000 watts, so it is still possible to blow the sub with 1200. Not to mention the power limitations that the box may place on it mechanically. Basically all I'm saying is don't set it this way and think it's bulletproof. You still have to listen for stresses in the sub.
