2 12's or 2 10's for small 4 dr sedan? (95 geo prizm)

I've made up my mind on a subwoofer, I'm going to go with the Image Dynamics Version 2 but i'm not sure wether to get 2 10's or 2 12's. I don't want my trunk to rattle like hell plus I don't want to overpower my front stage. I'm going to have them in a custom built sealed in closure.

Front Stage - CTX65CS - Image Dynamics 6.5" Component Speaker System

Sub Stage - IDQ10V2.D4 - Image Dynamics 10" IDQ Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofer

OR

IDQ12V2.D4 - Image Dynamics 12" IDQ Dual 4 Ohm Subwoofer

Thanks!

Does your HU have a sub level?

Kinda depends on you man, but if it was me i would get the biggest i can and just turn them down. At some point you may want to rattle the trunk. It takes a little more to get loud in a trunk.

This is true and the subs are only rated at 350 rms a piece (the 12's I mean) so it's not like they're THAT powerful but I'm pretty sure they will still get the the job done. I think I'm going to just go with 2 12's. The Head Unit I have now doesn't have a sub level equalizer but the one I'm going to have once I get the upgrade done will. Think I'm going to go with a Pioneer, the new digital media reciever one. Thanks for your reply and if anyone else has any input on this topic please share....

Is this your first sub set up? If so, you may think you don't want too much bass but when you have and feel the bass in your ride... when you have the power to have bass at anytime you want.. it does (to some people i've talked to about this) turn into you wanting more bass.

A good friend of mine told me the same thing. Go with 2 12's! You are going to want more anyway! I just don't want to overpower my mids and highs. I've been in vehicles where all you hear is the bass, this is NOT what I want! So say I have to 12's what is the difference between turning down the gain on the amp to the sub and actually turning it down on the deck? BTW to answer your question it's not my first sub setup, I have 1 memphis audio 10 right now but I want more then that obviously.

Nothing!

You can use the gain to blend them with your front stage too. I just like the level controll on the deck because there are times I want to turn the bass up and

break shit. :drink40:

I have never heard your front stage nor the sub stage you are asking about, but.. i wouldn't worry too much about over powering your front stage. I don't know if your H/U has EQ settings, like rock, pop, top 40, natural, etc etc but these settings, (EQ settings) will help you balance your audio equipment so nothing "over powers" anything.

2 12's. It'll sound better, hit a wider range of notes, and you'll be able to get louder in case you're in the mood for a song or two

If it was me I would go with 2-10's in that car. The Geo Prizm trunk is kind of small and most 10's work well in about .75 to 1.0cuft sealed.
