Is there such a thing? Amp Q

Recommended Posts

I was wondering...

Are there any amps in production that have:

Class A: Left & Right channels

Class D: Power stage for a subwoofer.

All in one package / Amp case?

If there isn`t.

Is there any reason why this couldn`t be done or hasn`t been done yet?

there are a few 5 channels that have an A/B for the mids and highs, then a D class for the rear,

for example the Kicker KX 700.5 and Memphis Belle are like that

Class A is expensive, inefficient, tough to cool. Hence you see so much A/B.

And totally kicks ass :) But for 12VDC, they're tough to implement. That's why 99.9% of all Class A amps you see are going to be used for home audio, where the inefficiency and size penalties don't matter.

ya i wanna hear one of those tube amps with my system. Heard it has unmatched SQ from any amp. Theyre hot. Literally.

Pure class A for car audio = teh sux0r

Nothing like running an amp that has a maximum efficiency of 25% off of the limited power supply available in a car :P You wouldn't, however, need to run your car's heater in the winter ;) From what I'm told, the old Monolithic amp's heatsinks would literally glow at night (and they aren't tube amps).

Like Denim mentioned; there are a few 5-channels that have class A/B front end channels, then a Class D subwoofer amplifier. Then you have something like the Alpine amps, which IIRC have a psuedo-class D technology that they use on all channels.

Thanks Guys :fing34:

Just had a funny idea about getting some amps made up.

Doesn`t seem like a good idea now.

Oh well. :)
