Would it really be worth it?

Recommended Posts

Planning on putting either the 15" Fi Q I already have or getting a 15" BL in my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both would be in a ported box to specs. I've read hundreds of user reviews and have a good idea of what both can do. The Q I've only heard in a sealed box with around 1.8 cu ft at the most.

Would it honestly be worth it to go through the process of selling my Q and getting a BL? Looking for ""SQL"" and basically if the BL isn't going to be noticably louder considering the Q will play lower I'm going to stick with the Q. But idk what would you do? I definately want output while mainting decent sound, playing low etc.

If you have the Q sealed and are wanting more output then I would build a ported box before buying a new sub. If you are still craving more output, I would then start searching for a new sub.

If your looking for a sub that can get loud and sound good there are other subs besides the Q and the BL.

But i would put it in a ported box first before going through the trouble to sell it.

The Q is not made for loud. If you want more output from your driver build a ported enclosure, if that still isn't enough get a BL or BTL.

Try the Q in a ported box as said above! If it doesn't satisfy your need for bass then give it to me and buy a BL or BTL.

Rightttt I'd be happy to give my little miniature king kong away. Actually my Q has been the best sub I personally have ever owned, but I did notice that even the SX I bought and tested at 600 watts sounded louder at frequencies right above the lower notes. I'd use the SX!!! but.....its dual 4 ohm and I would need to get another amp? I'm using a RD 1000.1D doing 1000 @ 1 ohm. If there was a way to change the voice coils I'd just do that but I'm assuming I'm screwed.

A thought I've been contemplating is just saving up for either another SX and then being able to wire it appropriately or possibly another Q at dual 2? The thing with the Q is... is that mine is a 2009 model with no options and they JUST came out with the 2010 versions....are they compatible still? I've e-mailed Fi twice and only recieved a response giving me 2 options about an order complication which I don't have...

AHHH! Lol what to what to do. I do like the idea of just porting my Q and seeing what happens, but then again if I'm going to spend the money on a custom box I'm thinking I might play it safe and get something with more output anway know what I mean?

No, you wouldn't want to put a 2009 Q and new Q together.

1) Build or buy a big ported box for your Q.

2) Sell the sx.

3) Enjoy your Q with your amp.

4) If you need more, try to sell the Q while you save for another sub.

You will use your custom box for the new sub.

Just my 02 cents.

Yeah I finally got a response from Fi saying the same thing. Too bad I think two Q's would be awesome, assuming I could some way come up with the funds and upgrade my electrical for the first time ever.....

I wish I wouldn't have made the mistake of ordering a dual 4 ohm version of the SX because I want to put that in sooo bad now. I know it would be ideal if I were to get my hands on another SX and just wait but that could be months, maybe a year and I have patience but I've also been in military basic training and tech school for 5 months now and I want some bass when I get out.

Any ideas on what I could do? As far as I know I'm not going to be able to change the voice coils on the sub. Maybe if I ask RE they could do something.

What I'm really leaning towards honestly. Doesn't hurt to shoot around ideas while I'm sitting here bored without being able to do anything though.
