help re-adjusting gains please

hey guys, if you checked out my latest vid i posted a few days ago then you will know that people

have been saying it could be hitting harder, but im confused here because on some songs

the amp clipping light comes on so it would be sweet if people with more knowledge could help me out

so if you guys could show me what the gains should be set to, to have the loudest possible beat that would be much appreciated

here is the vid

here are my current amp and H/U settings (the red dot next to each setting is where the gain is set to)

Box = slot ported tuned to 32hz

Amp = AQ2200d

Sub = 18" BTL D2

Head unit settings

Sub lvl = 13 (max 15)

Bass lvl = 0

Tuned at 30 volume with 50hz tone (max volume 35) average listening volume is 22 (any higher and it starts to clip)

also when I set the gains (with a DMM) I had my H/U Sub lvl to 13 already, i tried it with 0 once but that wasnt loud aswell

and came to the same outcome.

edit* I took the remote out so I could get a clear pic, but I always use it

I think you've got the same HU as I do. I usually keep my SUB levels almost at max, but leave the bass setting at 0, I've had the best results with that in my setup.

I would keep the sub level at 0. I'm assuming you know how to correctly set the gains with a DMM. calculate how much power the amp should put out at the impedance your subs are wired to in voltage or amps and then turn the gain knob until you reach that number on the DMM. The amp clipping light may come on because the input signal is already clipped. I never used an audioque amp tho, so I'm just guessing.

If you leave your sub level at 0 while setting your gains, if you turn it up afterwords, couldn't you get clipping? I would leave the bass and treble neutral and have the sub setting around what I was going to use it at.

Right. Personally, I leave my sub level at 0 on the HU. I don't turn it above that, only down sometimes, but I use my amp's remote knob to adjust the bass volume normally. Yea, set the gains at the highest volume you'd normally play at. I just don't know if the sub level adjustment is boosting the signal if it's above 0, so I leave it at 0 to be safe.

mhm yeh thats a good point thanks, i was thinking that it might actually count to the clipping by having that extra control in the h/u

also i may have encountered anther issue as to why its not hitting hard, its my box,

i failed making my first box because it was my first time and i dont think the measurements for the port are right

i made another topic in general too get help on redesigning the specs for my box, i got confused on which measurements are which

Here is my opinion, please correct me if Im wrong.

His box is tuned to 32Hz. That subsonic filter is set to ~50% which seems to be 20Hz (a little less maybe since it points towards the left), isnt he wasting a lof of power by not having his subsonic within 5Hz of his box tuning?

Those ticks on the amplifiers are never right...go read JL audio's manual on the 1000/1's. They even say that what is printed on the amplifiers isn't what the pots are really set at.

Setting the subsonic filter on those amps is much of a crap shoot..if the sub starts unloading then turn the subsonic filter up higher..
