Water in door panels!

So my front speakers stopped working and its not a big deal they were cheapo sony 5 1/4"'s, temporary until I got my components.

And it was raining one day while I had the speakers were out and I saw the amount of water that runs down the door and gathers at the bottom and then drains out..

This cannot be good for my speakers, and considering there was rust on the back of the burnt up speakers this has to be the culprit.

I was planning on putting a nice set of components in but there is no point if they are just gonna get destroyed by rain water..

What would you guys do?

Sorry to hear that its a good thing you found out befoe you invested money into it and blew your speakers...weather stripping should eliminate most of the problem

Try and pinpoint where the leak is coming from. Is there currently any weather stripping in place?

Ha, you should see the sheet of water that pours through my Silverados doors in the car wash. Never hurt my speakers though and they came out unblemished.

x2, I get a good amount of water in my doors and never hurt any speakers I have had (they get a good amount of rust on them but that is about it (never affected its performance).

Wow really??

I don't know if there is weather stripping but I think it is coming from the window seal..

Could I just wrap the back of the basket in electrical tape to create a barrier almost?

Water is gonna tear apart that electrical tape, I would try to fix the weatherstripping in the doors if it is that bad or make the drainage holes bigger to drain more water. Just a few tips

One last thing, when I get the components where will I mount to actual crossover to keep it out of harms way??

Some people even mount them in the back where the amps are, it is really up to you so get a little creative

Yup, you can mount them pretty much anywhere. Just remember, the further you go from the speakers, the longer you need to make your cable runs.

Im just putting mine under the dash by each door , so they are pretty close to the speakers, plus easy access. Dont have to rip any paneling off

One thing I've seen done is getting those little plastic speaker baffles/enclosure things and cutting off the bottom half as you hold it horizontally. Think XTC baffles, but those are foam and I'm not sure if they're waterproof. But basically that makes an umbrella for the basket and motor while the open bottom allows the plastic thing to not act as an enclosure as they were designed to be, because that often stifles performance of the mid quite a bit. I'm not sure how well it works, just heard about it.

I have plastic baffles for my rear speakers because the ssd would probably have destroyed them by now..

I was thinking about doing that with the front's but idk if the window will have clearance because the baffles are pretty deep, then again I could cut the bottoms off and create a umbrella like you said.

Go for the umbrella idea. I've even seen it done from wire mesh then deadened to actually act as an umbrella. Get creative

Doesn't matter. If you mount them closer to the speakers you save some cost and time by not having to run 2 sets of speakers wires per side the entire length of the vehicle.
