sealed 10" Q or SSD???

Recommended Posts

so i am trying to figure out which sub to order, i have read multiple posts about this and in the end the person purchases a sub but with no reasoning on there conclusion. so here is what i have to work with. i do alot of offroading so cargo space must be maintained this is why i have chosen the box below. the box is made for a single 10" with .75cuft. i have been wanting a Fi woofer for sometime now. so like the other posts which one and why? pros and cons. both the Q and SSD are rated for sealed enclosures. i would like to run the 10" Q. i would probably run the sundown SAZ-1000D. here is a few pics of the box.

I vote for the SSD.

I would try to port it if you can. I bet you could still have it nice and stealthy and would get more output to get you loud.

i wont recommend a sub but i wanted to make sure that you've checked the mounting depth before you buy. the box looks pretty shallow. however you could just add an mdf ring to get more depth if needed.

id like to point out that maybe you should consider trying to work a design for a ported box in your space.. i understand your trying to save space but maybe a shallow box thats more like a false floor? you would just have to cover the sub with a grill so u can lay things ontop of it.. maybe consider 2 sa-8's from sundown since they have smaller mounting depth and together they still have the about the same power handling as a the Fi Q.

a ported box would meet your goal of "loud" much much easier then a sealed 10.

the mounting depth of the box is just over 8" for the box. ill think about that false floor, unsure if that would be good with the type of work i do.

can you get enough space around the tire well to do a 10 ported? maybe require fiberglassing but it looks like you could pull if off...

just curious why are you guys reccomending ported? i under stand they are louder and move more air but what is wrong with the box i have found? just trying to find your reasoning so i understand you guys better.

the box i found is .75CuFt sealed

the Q and SSD rec. is .2-.6

after woofer displacement will be around .48

so 800-1000 rms in that sealed box, what do you think.

if your goals are loud then ported is recommend, that simple. will a sub get loud in a sealed box w/ 1000rms? sure.. but loud enough? thats up to you

That box also does not look like it is mdf, if it is particle board like it seems in the picture RUN away.

Your goals don't correspond with a 10" sealed. No one should recommend either as you will be left wanting more.
