Box for my 18" BTL

Recommended Posts

I got the box built a few days ago.. just wondering if I could throw the dimensions out here and you guys can tell me what it is size wise. He told me its around 8.7cubic feet and i think he said 32 hz is what its tuned too.. damn thing is huge, but here is the measurements 48 1/4th across, 20 1/8 height on the face plate, 24 1/2 tall.. the port i wasnt 100% sure how to measure properly so ill tell you what i did and if im wrong correct me and ill run out in the garage and re measure. I basically stuck the tape measure in the port, hooked on to where the inner port board stops and took that as my port depth measurement, which was 17", port is 6 7/8 wide, 18 1/2 tall, its an L port and for measuring the inside board i just ran my tape measure up against the wall and out to the end of the 2nd port board.. hope you understand what i just said lol.. port board 1 is the one you see when you look inside of the port, port 2 is the board you see when you look inside the speaker cut out.. i put the tape up against port 1 and measured to the end of port 2 which was 6" long... if you guys could see what that calculates out to and how well you guys think it will sound with a 18" btl fully loaded. here is just a few quick pictures i took the other day..

i put your measurements into re's box calculator and it says it is tuned to 29.5 hz, but this doesnt allow for sub displacement or brasing, i know the Fi Q 18" i just bought suggest's 28 hz but i want it tuned higher for a flat responce throughout

yea i tried the re calculator also, but there is other factors i think, bracing and the 1.5 inch baffle. the sub displacement.. hope this box turns out alright

Your dimensions don't really add up.

Are you saying what the guy told me is wrong or I didn't measure right?

More then likely both. You say your enclosure is 20.125" tall but the port is 18.5" tall, unless the wood used is .8125" thick something is wrong (I'd attribute it to measuring the carpet). The width of your port doesn't coincide with the first port measurement of 17", meaning in order to have a 6.875" inch wide port you should have measured 16.875" to leave 6.875" away from the back wall.

i see what your sayin lol.. it does have carpet so a dead on measurement might not happen, i just took the tape measure outside and got a quick measure. Ill get out there soon and get another measurement for you, either way i look at it im kind of stuck with this box.. just wanted to see how full of it the guy who built it was. it looks decent.. its huge.. but sticking the speaker in there and hearing it will be the test im going to need. Guess its just me.. always think someone's tryin to get over on me lol.. thats the internet for ya :)
