'06 Jeep Liberty Build

Recommended Posts

Hi. I plan on starting a build very soon. It will go in an '06 Jeep Liberty. I plan on revamping the whole stereo. Since this is my first system, I have been researching different products now for about 4-5 months, so I already have a general idea of what i want. I don't plan on doing install myself because i don't trust myself enough, and I really want to do this right. There are a couple good car audio shops in my area that i trust for installation. I listen to primarily rap and music with heavy bass. I have a budget of around 2,500$.

A. Headunits

A new headunit will be the first thing that i buy. I have researched this a lot and i think i have finally narrowed it down to two different head units. At this point, i'm either going to go with the Alpine CDA-9886 or the Pioneer DEH-P7200HD. They are around the same price. I have heard great things about the CDA-9886 and am leaning more in that direction. I was wondering if anyone had any input on the DEH-P7200HD. If so that would be great.

B. Speaker comps/amp

In regards to speakers, I really haven't found or heard of any speakers to which i have a preference of. Everyone i have asked has always told me that the only real way to find out is to listen yourself. If anyone has any suggestions of speakers geared more towards rap music. As for the powering the speakers, i am leaning towards the Sundown SAX-100.4D. I was curious if anyone had any comments about Audioque though. A friend of mine is running his stuff off of Audioque amps and it sounds pretty good but i was wondering if anyone has heard both and could give some good comparison.

C. Subs

I have been researching and looking at different subs for a while now. I am definitely going with Fi. Its most likely going to be a "15 BTL. As for powering, I was thinking the Sundown SAZ-1500D, but i feel like the 1500 would almost be overkill. Any input on this would be great. As for an enclosure, i could build it myself but would need to buy a design somewhere. Any suggestions on where the best place to purchase a design would be great.

D. Wiring/extras

As for wiring, i haven't thought a whole lot about it. i often see references to the big 3 but am still not quite sure on what it is. If someone could direct me to a link explaining it or explain it to me that would be great. Wiring is an area that i am not as clear about and would need some extra help with.

This is my first build and i have been researching for a while before i made any significant posts. I really want to do this right and i'm willing to put in the effort and do some extra research. Any suggestions or criticism would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks so much.

I suggest you read through the forum and you'll find answers to all your questions. What did you research for five months?

Heres a link on the Big 3

I wouldn't suggest building an enclosure if you don't trust yourself enough to do the rest, unless your good at carpentry or something. Having a good enclosure makes all the difference.

Im not really sure what to say man, what was it that you researched then? And were you just looking for some conformation on what you researched? I will answer some of these, the best i can.

A. As far as headunits go i would say try and go to a shop and see if you can play with them? Get a feel for them, see how the knobs feel and changing the stuff around. I personally have no opinion on HU's.

B. As far as i know, there really isnt any full range speakers that are geared towards rap, as most rap wont incorporate a full range sound, mainly they will stick with low freq's. I would suggest just looking for some speakers that will fit your stock locations and budget.

C. I personally dont know anything about the BTL's. I have heard people using this combo and have been very happy with it. Just make sure if you are gonna run the 1500 to get extra batteries and even look at getting a new HO alt. Is there a reason you would be wanting to do the box yourself? If you are not comfortable with doing anything else, then why do it? Unless you just want to make sure it is done correctly? There is also alot of GREAT box builders on here that will be able to design and build an awesome box per your size specs, talk to them also and get pricing!!

D. Wiring is going to be a HUGE thing to deal with. But if you are taking it to a shop you shouldn't have to deal with it anyways?! Unless you are just trying to take the wire to them to install? And yes the Big 3 has been talked about, and even stickied, check post above, simple stuff, but a big improvement!

Just a final note from me, but if you are gonna take it to a shop anyways, why not sit down with them and really get it ironed out? Tell them exactly what you want to have done, and get a good rapport with them. The questions you asked are ones that the shop should be able to either help you decide or give you suggestions for. Maybe even just make them for you. Tell them you want replace everything and tell them do it. If you dont know what you are wanting anyways? Well man i hope i didnt sound like an ass. But GL with the build and i hope you figure out what you are looking for.

Radio : 7 band EQ pioneer:3 band EQ alpine easy choice. also I sold the 9886 didnt like it as a unit

Speaker and Comps: no input its all on you ears

Subs: BTL are nice and as far as a SAZ1500D being to much thats a big NO! run at least the SAZ2000D also talk with BIG JON and a few others on here and the Nightshade is a beast as well and can be custom ordered for you need just message Jacob when ready

Wiring : Knu Konceptz 1/0 awg full copper not CCA its cheaper but the full pure copper wire is worth it

Sound Deadening : Second Skin Audio makes the good stuff

Batteries: are must seen Kinetik in action good deal. XS Power batteries never seen them used but I here good things

Ok thats cool. I would highly suggest again that if you are gonna have a shop do all the install, sit down with them and have them design out a plan for you! Let them know exactly what you want.
