Stock Electrical On 92 camaro RS? Info Please!

Recommended Posts

So i got a FI BTL 12, AQ2200D amp, 0 guage kicker wire. Optima Red top under the hood & an extra " dumptruck battery" ( if you will) in the back. JVC KDR300 head unit. & I HAVE NOT done the big 3 yet. anyone got nay advice so i can get the full 2200 watts out of the amp without clipping the sub due to voltage drop? :ehh:

That will depend on gain settings. We could use a little more info, you said stock electrical, but how large is the alternator? Also, what are the specifications on the bettery in the rear?

Man Its a stock alternator. i think its like 90 or 100 amp. its the one for the 92 camaro rs. I got a line driver to help out. its made a damn big difference. the amp isnt ran on high gain at all. i say its not even an eighth of the way turnt up. the bass boost is all the way down ( no need for it anyways) the battery in the back is a diesel parts battery. 1100 crankin amps. thats about all the info i have on it.

Do the Big 3 in 1/0 gauge, makes no sense to have it for your car audio but not your car's electrical. If that doesnt work, then invest in a better battery or alternator. Do you have a volt meter to watch your voltage?

Nahh man i aint got a volt meter. The alternator guage drops a little but. but its not as bad when i had it cranked up wwhen i had my audioque hdc312. I had the full 2000 on it. im around 1400 with this one. how much would a volt meter run me? where could i get one && is there anyway to beef up the alternator without getting another?

You dont know how many watts it is seeing off hand so dont guess. You can get a volt meter anywhere so search for one on the internet, most people use Stinger ones. You can beef up an alternator but that is not usually the best route, I would just get a volt meter and do the Big 3 upgrade for now and then come back and let us know how your electrical is holding up.

We took a multimeter, did that square root shit && Set it for around 38.7. Thats how i know im getting around 14-1500. My boy knows a whole lot more about it than i do. But imma get the big three goin on sometime this weekend. && Ill get a volt meter.

You should be fine with what you have once you do the additions unless you have a bad alternator but I doubt it, the best way to tell is to get that volt meter and go from there.

Honestly that will be determined by your listening habits, I wouldnt ever want my voltage in the low 13's or in the 13's period if I can control it. Just never let it go below what your battery floats at, when you start getting into the high 12's then you may want to chill out and let things recharge. Its a personal decision and will come down to how much and how loud you play your system, dont jam at idle.

I wouldn't recommend going the cheap route and getting your original alt. rewound. In fact your stock alt. will do better at idle than the beefed up alt. :puzzled:
