direction of port

Recommended Posts

my subs are going to be upfiring (towards roof), would it sound best to have the port facing the rear of car? or facing roof (same direction as subs)? Or does it even matter?

This is going in a 2door jeep wrangler.

Thanks

it all depends, but ive heard many systems with sub up and port back and they sound cherry, get loud, and put out decent numbers on the tl.

In a Wrangler port and woofer down yielded the best results for me.

that's good news ^_^

How much space was there between the sub and floor? If I had the port and subs face down than that means I could store stuff on top of my box (like my backpack) :D

I believe we left 4" of space, I can't remember exactly it was a few years ago.

thanks Duran, this means I can still carry some stuff which is big deal to me :P

Did the jeep you worked/tested on have the rear seats out?

how much power and what was the box tuned too prior to downfiring?

Downfiring will probably lower tuning slightly but if the port is left too close to the floor with massive power output, it can cause turbulence and if on a meter, cause your peak to drop because turbulence drops with frequency.

It's possible 4" may be too close but you should see what kind of power he was using first.

Two 10's and ~500 watts.

They were older Rockford subs, can't recall the model.

I'm planning on putting two sa-12's in. Is there a formula I can use to find the distance needed between the cone and floor of jeep? I'll be powering it with a sae-1200d (1200watts)

No formula, just leave about 3 inches of clearance plus xmax.

Subs up and port back usually yields the best output imo. I have done downfiring subs in extended cab pickups and they get nice and low as shizzon was stating.

the nice part about having them downfire if I go that route is then I can put my backpack on top of the box :P

That's about all I need to carry :)
