Box too big ?

Recommended Posts

Ill have a FI 18 Q here tomarrow , it calls for 6 to 10 cuft box . I have a 94 gmc sonoma ext cab , there will be no back seats . Ill mounts the amps in the back of the seats and one on the roof for the 32 clarion i have ( going in the bed ) . Ive measured out the the box to take up the back 53/23/25 and it comes out to 17 + cuft . What will be the con's or pro's of a box bigger than called for ?

Low amount of power handling, a very low amount of power handling. Just build it to what is recommended or get another Q18.

You could always do, let's say an 8 cubic foot enclosure in a halt wall, and make a beauty panel to make it look like a full wall.

love it dont yea.

Ok with that in mind , i can take the 53 L and make 3 sections out of it . Ill have 13,26,13. This gives me 8.8 for the middle and 4.3 for the 2 sides in wich ill use my chepo MA 10s in and give me the power back . This is mostly a SQ system with a dip into the bace tunes when the urge calls .

If you are wanting to mount the amp to the roof of the inside cab be sure to put a piece of material on the sheet metal and then mount the amp to the material so you don't go through the roof. Like a piece of wood glued to the roof underneath the headliner.

O i dont know screws sticking through the roof mite look cool . LOL

I will weld a braket to the roof then use rubber mounts for the roof amp . My truck isnt painted yet so no biggy there .And i know that 4.3 is to much for the MAs so ill take care of that when i build it . What buggs me is the 26x25 section for the 18 .It only gives me 3.5' top n bottom and 4' on the sides putting the ports verry close the the speaker . Ive thought about boxing off the 10s and thus routing the ports behind the 10s up the sides to the front like i want . The ports for the 18 would be on both ends of the box facing front .Or would that put the ports too far away ? I think they call for 2 , 4x13 .
