What are the fuse ratings of your amps?

Amperage draw...

take rms and divide by peak

Ex.600rms/1200peak=.50%

take % and multiply by fuse rating

Ex. 60a(two 30a fuses)*.50=30a continious draw

Alternators usually have 40% reserve

ex. 105a alt

105a*.40=42a reserve

You may not need a 200a alt. This is an easy way to estimate on how big an upgrade you will need.

Say you have a 105a alt (my truck does) it does 75@ idle and 105 at full rpm.

your system requires 50a total but your amp only has 42 in reserve. You could get by with a 130a alt.

I Prefer to always have more than I need. However, in the case of aftermarket interchangability, I'd stick with whatever case you have now. It's just less of a hassle and makes for switching back to stock if things go wrong or resale that much easier. What do you do if your custom alt fails on you and your custom bracketry will no longer work with the stock alt. More down time and a possible tow fee. Yes, I am an anal bastard who carries a spare alt with me.

well he said i wont need a custom mounting bracket, it just bolts onto mine, but 250a is a good 50-60$more

$330compared to about 270$ with shipping, and small case is less than that, i didnt even ask for the price of it because i dont really want a small case

now will 200a be big enough?

:+1: on Nate being easy to deal with. I ordered one on Friday that should be here this week. I got mine powdercoated just for a couple extra points if I show it. I also want to thank you for turning me on to the Rainbows at Arc. I got the last set of Pro's (4" and tweet) he was out of 6"'s and had one set of 5.25's CSC line. They will be getting installed in the real near future.

yea no problem, just trying to help anyone out, but i cant wait to get my alt, he is only 2-2.5 hrs away from me, so shipping isnt really anything like overnight, but should be here soon, i have a bad voltage prob, when i locked my door tonight the inside like dimed, i was like WOW thats not good, all i did was hit lock and the light went poof, so im guessing my alt dosent charge my batt really at all with my system on
