If you mean inverted then yeah it will change the airspace by how much displacement the subwoofer has, so if your subwoofer is 0.15ft^3 then add that to the internal volume area. Your internal volume and port will change slightly, nothing audible to the ear.

so its more for just looking at? does it matter if its in a ported or sealed box? only reason im asking is because i have a friend that is wanting me to build him a box, and he wants it inverted.

To me I guess it is a preference thing (now will it affect the sound I dont know since I never had experience with it), yeah you can invert a sub in either a ported or sealed enclosure.

when you switch from mounting the sub regularly to an inverted mount you switch the polarity of the sub, so what you can do is switch the positive and negative wires at the amp or at the sub to reverse the polarity back to normal. this is also referred to in terms of phase. im sure you've seen some amps that can change phase? when you flip the phase 180 degrees its the same as switching the pos and neg wire.

here is a good resource. Basic Car Audio Electronics number 31 my be of some help... the demo of testing polarity with a battery will help you understand it better, if not i can go into more detail

it doesnt really matter which way the polarity is set, try it both ways or if you have a amp with a phase dial try all the setting to find the loudest.

oh, i thought it would be way more technical then that. im just going to wire it normally, then see if he wants to see what it will sound like with the phase changed.
