Doctor Q

Making a Box (need suggestions)

Recommended Posts

It was between posting on here or in home audio but i just decided to post here.... my older brother has a Sony WM500 subwoofer that he bought a couple years back and does not use it so I decided to start a fun, little, "screw around" project. I have already taken the powered amp off the original enclosure and disconnected all the wires. Also I have taken out the actual subwoofer and taken out the power on button from the sub and I am planning on building a box for this sub.

First off here is the subwoofer w/ powered amp: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=11027875

Ok, so the box can be as small or as big as needed because it is going to be in my room and shape does not matter. For this build I am just looking to get as loud as possible without sounding like absolute a$$.

I don't really have any ideas so far so just throw out any ideas or what you think would work best.

p.s. - first box build for me so nothing "too" crazy.

thanks guys,

alex

You can use the Sony enclosure as a starting point and see how it maps out. Then start considering larger sizes.

thats sort of what I had planned... I was going to measure it and see how big it was and increase it by atleast .5 cu ft plus bigger port. Just basically mess around till im satisfied. I was just wondering if someone had some better ideas before I got started.

one other question, 99% of the installs ive seen use MDF wood. For a home install (Since i guess weight is less of an issue) is there a better choice or should I just go pickup some MDf from Home Depot, Lowes, etc
