2 x 15" NS Box Help

Recommended Posts

so ive just finished building my 2nd box for these, and still not satisfied. ive done subs forward, port up in middle, but the box made me move my seat to close to the steering wheel it was 6 cubes 80sq inches of port, and i think there wasn't enough port area. sounded good though.

my new box is subs up, port up (drivers side) 6 cubes, 94 sq inches of port. both box's tuned to 32 hz, so im looking to for help on something will i will be happy with, im not looking for numbers, just something that gets low and hella loud at it.

my truck is a 99 s10 ext cab. do i need a bigger box for such low tuning? higher tuning? i play a lot of low 30-35 hz songs when i have it full tilt. i can only go max 16" deep with subs up, max 43" long, and height shorter the better, but right now box is 25, and i could go up to like 32? i just dont want my subs and port way above me head. if i do subs forward, the box has to be less depth so i dont have to push my seats forward again. please help box builders!!!

P.S running off a saz 3500 at 1 ohm..

If you want it loud and low you need them in about 7.5 after speaker displacement the box you have them in now if that after the speaker displacement and the port?

also before anyone says it, no blow through, no full wall, maybe 3/4 but i need rear view mirror, also ive been told i need a bigger box for tuning so low...? and yes those boxes i stated were dead after all displacement. jacob recommends 3-3.5 per 15'. so i did 6 after all displacement.

To acheive what your trying to do you need to be more toward the 3.5 side I understand what your trying to do I have a s10 blazer and I was kinda face with the same delimma. I was tryint to do four 12s and I didnt want the box to come above my back seat. I have a nightshade 12 that I just got last night in a box that is about 1.4 ported. I sounds ok but it needs a bigger box to achive the affect I want. So IMO i would try to build one as close to the 3.5 as I can get, if your within 10% of that you should be ok.

there is a 45 in the port, and i need to fix bracing in the box as the box is flexing now. but ive been told i need a bigger box for tuning that low...

Do you have a picture of the setups you have tried ? I had a customer get two of the first NS 15s and put them behind the seats in a truck and it was doing 150s on music with a relatively simple box.

His box was subs and port up with port in the middle -- lower port area and a bit higher tune.

well the thing that im worried about is hitting the lows down to 30 hz. so what tune are you thinking jacob? also thats what i would love to do, is 150's on music. and here are the pictures of the box, the first one is the box with the subs forward, 2nd box is sub up, port up.

ive been getting told to do like 126-154 sq inches of port at 7 cubes for 32hz tuning, but i think that port area is a little to much for daily..... do you have any info on that box jacob? pics or link to thread would help also, thanks

Found it... my mistake -- the port was on one side :

Nightshade Videos - SSA Car Audio Forum

Did low 150s on music.

awesome thanks jacob, so its a 8 cube box at 32 hz. so the tuning i like, as for the box, looks like im going to have to see what i can chop insde of the cab to make the box longer. im going to try to get ahold of him and get some more info on this as to dimensions and what not. thanks jacob!

also if you can get info from the guy that would be great as its not his truck, but he built the box.

well after doing some thinking, and remembering that my first box i like the sound from, im going to try to do roughly the same thing, but bigger, and more port. my old box was 6 cubes at 32 hz with 80 sq inches of port, subs forward, port up in the middle. so im going to do 7 cubes, 32.5 hz, 108 sq inches of port (but a rectangle box no angle on it. so hopefully keep the same sound, but louder?

Does anyone know if the Nightshades will still play low if the box is tuned to 36-38 hz??

Why tune that high and ask if they will play low? If you want them to play low then tune low. My Nightshades are tuned to 35 because that's what works for me, it's a goob balance of the lower music I listen to and the higher music as well.

i was told by a s10 guy that knows his stuff, that you cant just toss a certain HZ into my truck. he said that i have to tune to 38 hz for daily. and searching it seems some ppl say it will play down to 30hz tuned that high, but im not 100% sure. its hard getting people telling you different stuff to make a decision. i know im going to do a 7 cube box, with 108 sq inches of port, i just dont know what to tune to.. 34 hz? 36 hz? 38 hz? i want it to slam the lows, but get loud doing it..

Tuning to 35 Hz. I play 28 Hz. very well, but that low below tuning you must be careful not to cause mechanical damage.

well i took out my duals, and put my old single 15 box in with my NS, its 3.5 cubes at 32 hz with 50 sq inches of port, and it sounds awsome, been so long i forgot. so now im just going to double the box for my duals, so run 7 cubes and i think tune to 34 hz this time, with like 105 sq inches of port.
