New to SSA some Q's about DCON's

Recommended Posts

My wife drives a 2003 Honda Accord V6 sedan. She has a 300 watts RMS at 2 ohm on the 5 channel amp and wants a sub. I was on DIYMA and someone suggested I look into the 12" SSA DCON. I read the specs and did some searching. The price fit our budget but my question is...how will this sound with 300 watts at 2 ohm in a sealed for example 1.0 to 1.20 cubic ft sealed box? I read that people prefer the ported box but I am looking for something sealed but I am open for suggestions. I was looking into one of these:

Single 12" Sealed MDF Enclosure (12SQTC) 12" Sealed Subwoofer Enclosures Sealed Subwoofer Enclosures Car Subwoofer Enclosures Car Subwoofer Installation & Accessories Car Audio/Video Installation & Accessories Car Audio, Video, & GPS Navigation - Sonic Electronix

or

Sonic Sub Box: 1SL12-1.0 (BLACK CARPET) (1sl1210-black) 12" Sealed Subwoofer Enclosures Sealed Subwoofer Enclosures Car Subwoofer Enclosures Car Subwoofer Installation & Accessories Car Audio/Video Installation & Accessories Car Audio, Video, & GPS Navigation - Sonic Electronix

Specs on the amp:

5-channel amplifier

50 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms + 200 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms

75 watts RMS x 4 + 300 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms

150 watts RMS x 2 + 200 watts RMS x 1 bridged at 4 ohms

CEA-2006 compliant

variable high- and low-pass filters (32-320 Hz, 12dB per octave)

bass boost: 0-12 dB

frequency response: 10-75000 Hz (front and rear); 15-320 Hz (subwoofer)

Non-stop Thermal Protection ciruitry

Class-D amplifier design

differential balanced speaker-and preamp-level inputs

4-gauge power and ground leads and a 80-amp fuse recommended — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier

fuse rating: 40A x 2

7-1/16"W x 1-3/4"H x 14-3/16"D

Welcome .... :drink40:

The DCON is a great woofer and a great choice for your application. Looking at the 2nd link that box would be a great choice when going sealed.

Good luck

Is the 1.21 to much? If so I will just wait for the 1.0 to be in stock. Thanks.

It would sound good on 300w sealed.

I would get the bigger box. You can always add to the inside to take up volume if you wanted too.

Thats cheap as hell for that box. 3/4 MDF too.

Welcome BTW.

Thanks for the reply. I am leaning towards the sealed for better SQ.

They sound very good in ported as well. I have a review of a 10" DCON under the SSA section if you would like to read it.

There should be zero loss in clarity if put in a proper enclosure. :)
