phoenix gold xenon 600.1

Recommended Posts

hi i have had the pg xenon 600.1 on my previous sub setup which was ran at one ohm but i have recent sold that sub and bought a dc sound lab lvl 4 xl 15 which is dual 1.4 ohms i tried wiring it in series to a 2.8 ohm load and it didnt seem like the amp was putting out hardly any power so i was wondering if i wired everything in parallel to get a .7 ohm load would that be safe for the amp. i plan on checking everything again in the morning to see if i can get it to sound right at 2.8 ohms . but if not do u think the amp will be safe at .7 its just for daily driving no competitions or anything

well that amp can handle up to a 1ohm load

so anything under that could damage it

also this amp is 600 rms at 1 , 2 , 4 ohms so really any way you wire your subs to match the 1,2,4 ohms loads would work

maybe you might need a better amp that has more power and can push that sub better

thats a big handle-ing sub

actually that amp will put out more at 1 ohm**** even though it is rated to be 600 across the board, you should be fine wiring at .7 after imp rise, although if amp goes into protect i would rewire to 2.8

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER! count on impedance rise on DAILY music is FLUCTUATING, not a constant tone.

^^^^ this is true but also you will never see what you are wired at period, so he will be ok, now if he was asking to wire at .3 and count on imp rise to be a constant .9 then i would totally agree man

Still, NEVER.

You can but you have a very high potential to see the magical black smoke.

What is your electrical like?

wow u must be right i have clamped that amp on music, and the full range of test tones it would play, but ya i guess your right.......... also that amp will go into protect before smoking when wired to low...... and asking electrical on a 600w amp, unless he is running on a big wheels toy he is fine

Is that 1.4 ohms the actual impedance or is it the dc resistance?

also where do you get off saying amps rated at 1 ohm can only got down that low? many amps that are "RATED" at 1 ohm can go down to .5 or even .3, if you havent used the amp yourself i wouldent give a cookie cuter response

Nobody says an amp rated at 1 ohm cant go below 1 ohm, they are not supposed or recommended to. We dont tell people things like that here since in the wrong hands it can cause damage to amp, electrical system, etc. That is just like saying a BL can do more than 1000 watts, yeah it can but is it recommended no (it depends on a lot of things). If your gonna throw information about an amp playing lower than what it can then give reasons on the advantages and disadvantages of doing it. Just cause it is playing fine below its normal ohm load does not mean it will do it forever, I had a Memphis amp that I ran close to a year at .5 ohm and it finally gave way with the proper electrical so no all amps will not survive being ran at .5 ohms for a long time.

Something I think a few people missed was, to Jimmie, how do you know the amp was not putting out the ratted power? It is a regulated amplifier, so there might be another issue we are over looking.
