6.5's ......I know, I know

Recommended Posts

I am sure it has been asked before, but I am looking for some real experiences with midbass drivers. I snagged a set of Rainbow Pro components (4" and tweet) cheap :gift: and am looking for something to give the midbass some foundation. I have used MB Quart exclusively for about 17 years and just switched to Focal about a year ago. i am interested in RE, DD, Seas Lotus, or anything in that range. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Kevin

Oh yeah, they will be mounting in the doors of my truck (see sig) along with the 4's and the tweets in the pillars.

IB in the doors and strictly midbass duty, I would go with the Lotus. Oh wait, that's because I AM.

if you want to save money, and still get a sweet driver, go for the seas L18RNX or seas CA18RNX.

if you're looking for more power, you can go with the re xxx's since they're 2ohm. 13mm 1-way = a ton of output for a mid.

Ryan where would you suggest looking for the Lotus? I know Madisound has them, just want to comp their prices.

Dennisp, did you order you extremis straight from adire? Are they 8 ohmers or 4's. I have heard the 4" versions in a home setup running full range as the surrounds and they were quite impressive. Mad power isn't my priority, looking for straight SQ and something to provide foundation down to about 60Hz. Thanks for the other suggestions, will be checking into those today.

Supa, How did the DD's sound on the bottom end? I am planning on running them from 60Hz up to about 250Hz, and bringing the Rainbows in at about 150 Hz depending on how they sound overlapped. What size ported enclosure have you used them in?

the extremis' are 8ohms, supposedly a 4ohm version will be coming out but who knows when thatll happen. josh laine is running the 4ohm version right now. power shouldn't be a really big deal with these drivers, wiggins told me 30wrms would be plenty.

i bought em from www.acoustic-visions.com

www.mobilesq.com has the Lotus drivers. $165 a piece. I'd been tempted by the Extremis, but the Lotus is a hair better in the sensitivity.

Dayton RS series and Peerless HDS are great options aswell.

Dayton RS and Seas L18/CA18 are probably the best "bang for your buck" products out there right now....both rival the Seas Excel's in overall performance. HDS is no slouch either though.

They got pretty dang low, sub bass regions.

1.1^3 tuned to 38HZ i believe

The DD Mids.
