18 btls sealed? why not?

i have 2 18btls but only one can fit in my car with a ported box.

actually i want to sell one btl but in case i dont find a customer who buys it for a reasonable price, can i put both btls in a sealed box? as the other btl would just lay around losing price.

i know fi doesnt recommend that. and i know i will lose alot of spl.

but how would the sq change?

i've always wondered why certain subs couldn't be sealed, i would guess it wouldn't get any airflow so it would just get too warm. could be wrong, probably am, but that is my guess.

Nick or Scott would be able to tell you all the technical reasons as to why not! These are the guys building the subs. If they say not to do it then I would listen. They Designed, engineered and built the subwoofers, they know best.

ALL subwoofers are designed for a particular style of enclosure that they work optimally in. Sometimes manufacturers compromise so they work in both. The BTL's are NOT one of those drivers. Not only will 2 sealed sound worse than 1 ported it won't be as loud either. Complete waste IMO.

if the BTL's wont work for you look into the Xcons, they work great sealed or ported.

Just as different vehicles are designed for different applications, so are speakers. I offroad all the time, and Ferraris have 4 wheels and are great cars... so why wouldnt I go rock crawling in that? Doesnt mean that the Ferrari is a POS, just that offroading or towing a trailer isnt the best idea for them.

TS params indicate what application a sub should be used in. In the case of the BTL, the high motor force, low Qts, and small Vas indicate a ported speaker. A low motor force, higher Qts, and huge Vas often indicates a huge sealed application or IB specific sub.

BTLs will not explode into flames in sealed, but as mentioned so eloquently above, they will sound like poop.
