Which AA setup?

Recommended Posts

hey guys im buying a new system for my 2004 pontiac grand prix. I was thinking about buying 2 10" AA assassins and putting them in a 2.7 cubic feet box(ported) and powering them with the Hifonics BXi 1610D. Do you think that these are going to get loud and hit pretty hard. Or should i go bigger and get a 12" arsenal in a 1.8 cubic ft box powered by the Hifonics BXi 610. Or finally should i get a 12" Chaos in the same 1.8 cubic ft box powered by the Hifonics BXi 1210D. I dont really want to worry about upgrading my electical system now but i am open to suggestions. Thanks.

More information would help, such as what your electrical consist of now? I would at least invest in a volt meter and do the Big 3 Wiring so you can monitor your voltage after installing setup to see if you have voltage drops. If you have voltage drops then you will need a secondary battery but if not then you will be ok, but we cant tell you if you will need additional electrical upgrades until you install it. Any sub put in its recommended enclosure will get loud and hit pretty hard (not a good way to describe how you want your system to sound since hitting hard varies by the user). The real question is what is your budget for subs, then we can help you choose what is right for your application.

I would vote for 2-10" Arsenals or 1-12" Chaos, you may have to add a secondary battery if you install this setup but maybe not (if so it will require a small battery at the most).

Ok thank! Do you know of any good places to get a box for that chaos 12, and is that hifonics a good amp for it?

Im honestly not a fan of Hifonics Amps but some use them with no problems and enjoy them, I would go for an Audioque AQ1200D for that subwoofer (D1 - Dual 1 ohm for a 2 ohm final load) :Audioque: Amps: AQ1200D For about $30 more you can get a Sundown SAZ-1000D for that subwoofer (D2 - Dual 2 ohm for a 1 ohm final load). The options are open for an amp, its up to your budget for one.

I'll definitely go for one of those. Will their be a huge difference between the Audioque ans the sundown?

No, nothing sound wise what so ever just wanted to give you a couple of options instead of just one and let you pick for yourself. Just make sure you get the voice coil configuration I mentioned with the amp you purchase since it varies per amp (whats in the parenthesis after the amps in previous post). Good luck with purchase and install, dont forget to show us pictures.

Ok so my final purchase is going to be 1 12" AA chaos in a 1.8 cubic ft, 1 AQ1200D, 1 stinger voltage meter, with a Streetwires 4gauge amp kit.

Yeah get the Dual 1 ohm but with that size box you could get away with Dual 2 ohm and wire it at 1 ohms and be careful with the gains and volume knob. Usually a smaller box allows for a little more power, but you dont have to just throwing that out there.

this box is just a temp. I plan on having a box built to 2.3-2.5cubic ft. So ill just go with the dual 1. Do you know the price of the sub? if not thats fine. Thanks for all your help, when i install this ill make sure to post some pics/vids.

With the AQ1200D you will be fine with a D2 sub and a 1 ohm final load. My boy has 2 of the Chaos on 3K amp takin 1500 a piece all day no sweat. I am about to buy one myself, for my brother-and-law's grad present, and run it on an AP15001D at 1 ohm. They are very well built subs and can take the xtra power no problem, just make sure you set your gains correctly. BTW these are awsome subs. Nice choice.
