5 cft gross volume for 1 18" btl?

Recommended Posts

i currently have 1 18 btl in 7 cft box ported.

but i have another btl which is stored in my room ^^. the problem is my trunk will only fit a 10 cft box without displacement.

so would this be ok or should i stay with one btl and sell the other?

would the volume increase with that small box?

hehe, dont run 2 18s in a trunk, it just can't be done properly.

i have a suv.

the point is generally i have enough space but i would need to build the box from inside the car... and im not that skilled yet.

lets say one chamber is about 4,6 cft for one btl after displacement.

x2, I would either build a bigger box for that 18" if you would like or sell both 18" and get you some 15"s but two 18"s in that trunk wouldnt be better than what you have now.

ok so now u have an SUV.

Bare minimum suggested NET volume for each 18 is 5cuft i believe.

Running a volume below that would lack serious low end and would cause the tuning to peak way further down the frequency range from it's tuning frequency.

Also, you must run a lot more power when using smaller than suggested volume or the output will lack compared to a properly built box.

I do not suggest it.

If i suggest anything, those 18s can be ran in larger boxes up to 10cuft NET.

If you want it louder, i'd suggest either rebuilding a larger box for a single 18 or add more power to your existing box but do NOT do both.

The larger the box, the less power it can handle mechanically so if you do build a larger box, test it's movement afterwords to make sure you wont kill it.

1 18 btl in 10 cft net 2k rms

thanks. but i have 2 18s ^^

the question is either putting 1 18 in a 9 cft box or 2 18s in 5 cft chambers.

that is fine if you know what your doing. my box is going to be around 5.5 cubes for my btl 18. steve meade only had 4.5 cubes per btl.

I was recommending you find a way to get 2 15's, as they would most likely perform better than one, or even 2 18's in the space you have them in.

2 15s would require more power than one 18 but theyre louder at the same space, generally. right?

i read 8 cft is enough for one 18 btl. so why wouldnt it perform good?

No, they don't require more power.

They would have more cone area, motor force, heat dissipation.

If you read that 83 ft. is optimal for one 18" why do you want to put two of them in 103 ft. Two 15's would outperform your 18" setup you have planned.

the (slot) port will be 19 inches high, but what about the width? are 4 inches enough or should i go wider?

the tuning will be 30 hz or lower (maybe 28 hz?)

so thats the box ive designed for 1 18 btl:

Height * Width * Depth

21,18" x 39,37" x 25,12"

port: 21,18" x 5,2" x 29,53"

tuning freq: ~28 hz

net volume: 8,25 cft

i have 6 inches left to the rearwall of my car. is it then better to put the port upwards like the sub?

If your back seat folds down than point it all forewards and shape a piece of something (leather on particle board) to somewhat seal it. If the sub has to be upfire, than point the port to the rear of the car. Upfire isn't good because it'll rattle the crap out of all that metal on the trunk lid and rear deck. If you can fit 21.18" x 39.37" than you can point it forewards into the car. I assume your port is 19.18 x 5.2 which = 99.736 square inches, which isn't 16 per & 132 sqin, it's 12. You can't go for 7.5 cubes, 16 square inches, 120 square inches? For a slot port that'll be tuned around 31-33. It might belt out the lows just as well with 8.25 cubes having more port area per cube.

what port width do you suggest then? for 28 hz.

my englisch isnt that good... sry.
