SAZ-1000D questions...

Recommended Posts

1: In the power connection section of the manual, it shows the amp connected directly to the battery; no fuse for the wire, just the 3 30 amp fuses on the amp, but there is a fuse in the wire in the 2000 and 3500 diagram. I know that the 2000 and 3500 do not have fuses of their own and therefore need the fuse in the power wire, but I did not know that there was no need to fuse the power wire for the 1000 and 1500... I have always been told to fuse the power wire no matter what, so this is new to me.

2: I have always been told by many reputable members of this forum that sundown rates their amps' output at 12.8v instead of 14.4. However, in the manual, it says that the testing voltage and THD were 14.4 and less than 1% THD. THD is total harmonic distortion, right? So it is irrelavant to the testing voltage, (besides the fact that a higher output can be achieved with a higher THD?), correct? Does this mean that sundown tests at 14.4 not 12.8? I am confused...

SA-12: Dumb question, but will there ever be a dual 2ohm model? Just wondering.

Thanks for any input! :drink40:

1. I think that is to illustrate, which amps need external fuses and which don't... Has Noting to do with the main wire.... You should always fuse the main wire from front to back at each end no matter what Amp your running... That will protect the wire and the car, then if the amp does not have its own fuses, like the 2000Ds for example, you add them there too, that protects the amp...

2. Not a dumb question... But one I do not have the answer for, I'd like to hear Jake or someone from Sundowns view on it...

I just received an SAE1200v.2 and it is rated at 12.8. They must just change voltages for the different lines. At any rate it doesn't really matter. They can "rate" the amps at whatever voltage and THD they want, but that doesn't mean that's what your amp will put out. Perhaps they know the amp will actually do 1200 watts at 14.4 volts and 1% THD, but they rate it at 1000 anyways.

Yes, they're available now

As far as the THD rating, (I can only assume Sundown is similar to the rest) that is measured with the voltage at 14.4. The power ratings are measured at 12.8 volts. What I like about Sundown is if the amp is rated at 2000 watts (like my future SAZ-2000D) the amp will do 2000 watts at 12.8 volts and of course the power will increase as the voltage goes up to 14.4 Which means you don't need a small country to get clean reliable power from their amps. I'm not affiliated with Sundown except for I love their products, just another Car Audio addict. Besides how can you not love a company with a Mad Scientist like Jacob?

Thanks for any input! :drink40:

1) smuller answered the fuse question.

2) The manual says that but they are indeed rated at 12.8 volts.

3) There already is a Dual-2 model -- came out several weeks ago :) Specs are on the site now for it.

1) Thank you smuller, I thought so, but I was kinda confused

2) Thanks, must have missed it

3) Didn't see it in the ssa store, so I'll check again; another thing I probablly missed

Thanks!
