BL or SSD

Recommended Posts

So what is the difference between a 15in Fi BL vs a 15in FI SSD with the BP power option. With that power thing the site says it will add 200-500wrms leaving the SSD at anywhere between 1000-1300wrms, while the BL is only at 1000..... given the right box (im thinkin about 32hz), will there be any noticable difference between the two subs? The SSD is noticably cheaper than the BL so would someone like me (noob) be able to tell the difference? any recomendations?

The BL is superior. It will handle a much larger amount of power and get louder if given the same power.

BP power is included in the BL and you can add cooling (the hyper pole is included in this, and the hyper pole is an extended Pole Chamfer, Extreme Lead, and an SPL gap.

Simply put, the SSD is a very basic, beginner subwoofer. The BL is a high powered, more experienced user subwoofer.

Ok, makes sence. so the BL is worth the extra money your paying for it. (which is still suprisingly cheap compared to some mainstream brands i was looking at).

It was the rms rattings that had me confused between the two. Alright, so how about the BL compared to the Q? they are also running similar power ratings if im not mistaken....

Do not use the Q unless you are planning on having a full sound quality oriented vehicle. The SSD, Q, and BL are rated at 1000 watts when stock. But when you start adding upgrades to the BL power handling increases, if put in a correct enclosure and your smart with the amplifier settings you can give it 1500+ watts.

the Q is based for toward sound quality.. Q for sound 'q'uality. ;)

the BL is based more towards SPL.

if you don't have much experience and low on cash then get the SSD. Even though its Fi's entry level. It can get loud. there is someone that does 150s with 2 10" SSDs with 3000 watts. So don't underestimate the SSDs. The BLs will get louder with more power handling too.

If your looking at a daily type system and don't want to spend a lot on electrical upgrades the SSD is a great buy! A very underrated subwoofer imo.

Don't look at power ratings, sort of a useless number. Much better to describe your goals and ask which would be better. Then the answer will be easy AND helpful for you.

Not trying to hijack, but this is a similar question between the Q's and BL's.

As stated in another thread, I am building a box for my pair of Q15's. After displacement, the box will be ~7.6 sqft tuned to 30-32hz. I will be running a DC Audio PIA2000.1 @ 1ohm (2200w rms +/-). My goals are "SQL". I need a daily setup that hits deep, yet can so some damage on the meter still. The Q's have worked out well, but how much of a difference would I theoretically notice by switching the Q15's out for BL15's in the exact same setup?

The BL's would do more "damage" on the meter. If you buy them let me know how much you want for (1) Q........... :neil:

Could that be you? ;)

OP, both subs are capable of getting painfully loud in the proper enclosure with the proper power. If you are going to compete and throw a chitload of power at whatever woofer it is, then get the BL unless you are going over 2000 watts... Then go on up to the BTL.

However, if this setup is for your listening pleasure alone, then as everyone has pointed out, specific goals would be helpful.

That is not even a comparison, for those goals then go for the BL's.

Damn, I might need to get the BL's instead of SSD's. Or instead of 2 12 inch SSD's maybe 2 15 inch SSD's :D

I liked my SSD, it got really nice and low.. defiantly a good deal.. hope the price doesn't go up with the new upgrades.

x2 hope it doesnt go up. I might have to buy elsewhere. What was the previous model price for a 12 inch?
