Nightshade 18'' box size/tuning

Recommended Posts

I want to tune low for my nightshade 18. How big should the box be after displacements? Port area? Tuning?

Thanks!

doesn't sundown have the enclosure volume on their site?

If you want to tune low, go for 33Hz or lower.

I couldn't find anything... I guess they don't have it...

There is a guy on here, brandondaily or something, (his display pic is his ford focus hatchback), he has this sub.

I believe that his box is 4.9ft^3 after displacements, but I'm not sure where he got those specs.

What amp will you have on it? What are your goals? What type of music do you listen to? Those questions answered would be very helpful.

I will have it on an AQ2200 @ 1 ohm for daily. I just want a loud daily driver, i dont do comps so I dont need to put up numbers. If someone can give me size, port area, and tuning that'd be really appreciated.

Im in DFW too as well.

For daily tuning anywhere from 31-35Hz will do you some justice and for port area usually people go with 12-16 in^2 per cube of internal box volume. For example if your box is 5ft^3 internally after displacements (sub(s), port area and bracing) then you should be between 60-80in^2 or port area.

More Dallas people that is what I like to see. :drink40:

alright thanks. 4-5 cubes okay after displacements?

I would shoot closer to 5 than 4, but that's just me; I think that size should allow it to handle all the power you're throwing at it and get it plenty loud.

From Jacobs mouth himself "4-5 cubes is what most folks use on the 18s, tune to your taste between 30 and 40 hz. "

And jacob said "let the box be 4-5 cubes" and it was good.

Gotta trust what the man himself says; he da boss. :drink40:
