My pioneer 6100BT has a feature called ASR (advanced sound retriever) and i am assumeing all the newer pionner HU will have this feature also

will tell you what ASR actully means and does.

When i turn on the ASR feature on my HU, it makes the sound/bass in my car louder but more clear like it is supposed to do.

so my question to you guys is, Would ASR act like loud/loudness feature on HU? witch you are supposed to have set to off

I have never messed with it so I cant comment. To me it looks like if your playing a burnt cd or mp3 player it will help with the sound quality but from the video I cant tell if it is a boost or not. Hopefully someone will chime in on this.

i can here a diffrence when i turn it on. there is also 2 diffrent ASR settings level 1 and 2, when i put level 2 on it sounds pretty bad. i really dont know what to make of this.

Personally I wouldnt use it unless you put a cd in or mp3 player on the headunit and it has horrible quality and if so then just do level 1 but you gotta remember to turn in off when done. Just my .02

it almost looks like a EQ and auto EQ of some kind.

as you notice there graph how just before the cutt offs it is boosting (raising) the missing frequencies. whihc leads me to believ it is a form of smart EQ

It looks like it does exactly what it does. Just adds the dynamics back into music.

This is used for mostly mp3's or audio files which lose sound quality when they are compressed. That feature pretty much gives all that sound quality back..

I don't understand extremely compressed music. I see people all the time with 80gb Ipods and 5gb of music on them. Had you just ripped them at a bit rate that is acoustically acceptable you wouldn't "need" gadgets to try to put back in what you took out. Rip at 320 and don't bother with the gimics.

I have all my music in FLAC, however for a car it is ridiculous. I guarantee even in a ridiculous setup you won't hear the difference between 320 and FLAC. Do a true A/B test and no way.

Umm well here is a question... what if you buy your music off of itunes? Are you screwed then? Cuz I know that they are all done in 256kb bit rate or whatever. But will there be a big difference between 256 and 320? or will I not notice it at all. I know if I do get a CD I burn it to the largest bit rate. But now I just download off of itunes.... iphone for life.

I personally would never pay for compressed music, but that isn't because of my car.

I'd seriously bet that if you compared 192 and 320 in your car you couldn't tell the difference. Now there are a bunch of albums released recently with REALLY shitty production causing them to sound like ass no matter what you do. That I really don't understand as decent A/D's are really cheap these days. Bummer, but nothing I can do about it. Luckily for me it is mostly in popular music which I don't listen to anyways.
