SAZ 1500D or 2000D for Nightshade 18"

Recommended Posts

How much would I gain if running one NS 18" D2 on saz-2000D against saz-1500D? Would there be difference on the ear with 500W more from saz-2000D? Is it really necessary to run over 1kw more than rated(assuming the underrated power of saz2000) to get loud or I should run 1500D and save that 100$.

I don't really care about the meter. Just want to save some money.

Both are great options! If your looking for tenths on the meter than the 2000D is the choice. The added headroom of the 2000D is a plus as well.

I am not looking for tenths on the meter. But with the coming NS v2 and with longer coil I was wondering if getting the 2000D it will be a noticeable difference. Jacob said with the new coil it can take more power and with more power it means louder. But I would like to save that 100$ if its not a big dif on the ear

do you plan on upgrading or getting multiple subs in the future for future applications?

if you plan on upgrading to something bigger get the saz2000 for future applications which could require more power then the saz1500 could put out?

but if you plan to keep just a single sub (the 18inch) maybe just stay with the a saz1500!

they are both a tank of an amp and with the economy the way it is save money where you can!

Well I am planing to get a second Nightshade but also another amp. I am doing it step by step and I can't just buy two NS D1 and a Saz-3500D.

For now I am thinking NS 18 D2 and saz1500D... then after some months maybe the same thing.

I would plan the system out smarter than that so you wont be waisting money in the long run. Such as buy one sub now at D1 version so when you buy the other one you will already have the right voice coil's on them. Now if you want the Nightshades v2, then I would just start saving up for an amp to each or one single amp however you plan on doing it so you can get the amps out the way while waiting on the subwoofers. This will also allow you to get you car ready for the install such as wiring, electrical and such.

I am not planing running D1 subs because it will require one big amp to power both subwoofers at 1 Ohm which is lots more $ than one single less powerful amp( I mean for the beginning of my system).

My plan was D2 + SAZ-1500D at 1ohm. Then get alternator, batteries, front line... everything for one complete setup. And after that just add one more NS 18 D2 with another amp... depending on my money 1500 or 2000D.

Do you like my plan now? :D

My actual question was does it worth it to spending 100$ more for 500watts and would I get NOTICEABLE change on the ear? Or one 1500D with (hopefully) it's 1800W will power it perfectly.

Thank everyone for the encourage. SAZ-1500D it is.

$100 bucks for 500 watts is a good deal no matter what. man if you have the hundred spend it. not many times have i said "man i wish i didn't have all that extra power", its usually the other way around.. plus who knows what the future holds, that extra 500 watts may let you upgrade. if that happens you will already have the power and that alone will save you from having to buy another amp. so......... in other words spending that extra $100 now may save you many hundreds in the future. just an idea to kick around

But the question is whether he will hear it by ear, and the answer is no. You'd only be gaining 1/3 extra power, which is probably only about 1 db.

There is also no rule about an extra 500 watts letting you upgrade. There is nothing wrong with running two 1000 watt subs on a 1500 watt amp. You don't have to have exactly or more amplifier power than the sub's RMS.

And to one of the OP's first questions- it is NEVER necessary to run 1kw more than rated.

Thank you guys. I have decided to run SAZ-1500D @ 0.5ohms with good electrical system to support the load.

I would not recommend this.

I won't have warranty in Bulgaria. And shipping it back to the States for repair won't be money wise. I'll ask Jacob to bench test it for some hours. If it fails somewhere ( which I doubt) better happen before shipping.

Do you already have the D1 sub ?

If not, just buy a D2 to run your amp at 1 ohm.

The problem is not about the warranty you won't have, the problem is about the shorter life your amp may have.

If you will buy a second one, take a D2 sub.
