Building a wall

Recommended Posts

So first off, I'm running a '99 Pontiac Grand Am. As we all know, the space in a Grand Am is EXTREMELY limited when it comes to car audio installs.. SO I had a few questions for my future install. I'm really looking into an 18" Fi BTL for the car, but there is not enough room in the trunk to build a box big enough to appropriately house this large of a subwoofer. So my questions are:

1) If I were to take out my back seats and just build a wall to put the sub in, would this be a better idea?

2) If so, what would I do about porting the "wall" to a specific frequency? (30-35 hertz)

3) If a wall isn't the best route to take in this situation, are there any other ways to solve my dilemma without grading down to a smaller subwoofer?

If anyone has ANY suggestions or opinions on this setup/plan, please feel free to post them. All help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

-Shag

I haven't done exact measurements, but just an approx. guess.. about 6-7^3 feet max. Grand Am trunks are very little

Why would you take out your back seats to mount one sub? Building a wall IS NOT a walk in a park as I am finding out right now. It makes you look at installing a "box" in a completely different manner. I am guessing you have more room than 6-7^3 ft. Take measurements and see where you stand. Try to avoid building a wall at all possible costs unless it is something you really really want to do.

yep, i run a wall right now and when i tear it down next year, i will be lining my entire car with wood and steel bracing... and hoping for a 160.. non-walled. May or may not happen but based upon what i am seeing.. i need to no wall my car with the next design i do.

Well I can get by with building a wall without taking out my back seats. So that's not really a concern. I just need a big enough enclosure for this sub, and building a box for it isn't a reality when it comes to this car.

You cant build a wall with your back seats intact. Just buy you a 15" BTL and put it in the biggest enclosure possible for it and get some nice amount of power and you will be fine and suprised.

Or build the wall, remove everything and completely destroy any remaining value in your car.
