Creating a New Box (Help Appreciated)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm building a box for a 15" BTL. My concern isn't neccesarily the box, but more technical things rather. For example I would like to know how much wattage/rms I can pull from having only one of the 15's. What would be the best way to eliminate distortion when running the speaker? I plan on running a xover so besides that I need help. I'm selling most of my old handmedown stuff and starting fresh. So, Since I don't have anything put together yet, I would like to have some suggestions on the best setup for having only one of these. It's going into the back of my Jeep Cherokee 92'. I have a few box designs up and if I can xfer them to my computer I will post them as soon as possible and start progression pics.

Makes no sense at all, the speaker will take its rms rating but that will also depend on box size. To eliminate distortion set your gains right so you wont send clipped signals and make sure you have no bass boost on.

Yeah, I'll agree with what you said about the sentence. Anyways I'm still a noob when it comes to systems, I've read a lot but it's a little hard for me to put it all together in a way that makes sense.

What kind of enclosure are you going to use?

The BTLs rms is 2k watts. What kind of amp are you using also?

For that amount, its hard to get 2k watts rms from a really quality amp. The Hifonics will get there but only at 14.4 volts.

Rated power output

----RMS power, 2 ohm linkable/dual mono 3000W x 1CH

----RMS power, 1 ohm mono 1500W x 1CH

----RMS power, 2 ohm mono 800W x 1CH

----RMS power, 4 ohm mono 400W x 1CH

You say the sub is 2000w RMS, how exactly would I wire it with this amp to have that amount?

i would get a saz1500d. is the sub dual 2 ohms or dual 1 ohm? the saz1500d will do around 2000 watts but u will have to upgrade ur electrical to get the most out of it.

Is the BTL dual 1 ohm or dual 2 ohm for starters?

As a matter of fact go ahead and up the budget, I'm talking 500-600. Thats on Amp. I'm buying the sub itself from a buddy for 350.00

If thats the case then one of these would be perfect. A little headroom wont hurt either for down the road.

AQ3500D

This is always a great match.

SAZ2000D

Also hoping that your driver is a dual 2 ohm version.

lol, thats funny. I feel like one: thats too much, and two: that'd break my bank. :D but thanks.

Okay, the woofer is Dual 1 Ohm.

I'll be putting it into a 92 Jeep Cherokee Limited. (90 Amp Alternator in the Limited Version.)

Right now I'm looking for an amp.

I'm making a new box for it, I have the MDF and am just waiting for the time to invest. (Winter Break)

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you.

Well you need to find a powerful amp at 2 ohms since your subwoofer is Dual 1 ohms.

Correct me if Im wrong but you said to up the budget to $500-600. If an amp that costs $550 is breaking the bank for the budget you described, then you have a math problem. It doesnt really matter though if you dont want the headroom.

Lanzar OPTI2000D ran at .5 ohm? 2000w RMS.

Would this amp get the job done?

Trying to run amps at .5 is not the way to go for daily. Why risk blowing your amp up for a few watts your ears will never hear? It will be a power hog and you will shit your amp and or woofer. Get dual 2 coils and run at 1 ohm or run the dual 1 coils at 2 ohm. If you have time and are trying to do things right this time you are off to a bad start

If it were me I would go with the used Sundown SAZ-1500D and wire your woofer to two ohms. Run it this way for awhile and if you feel you want more, look into buying another SAZ-1500D and strap the two amps together. You will have plenty of headroom as long as your gains and SSF are set correctly. Also your going to have to make sure your box is correctly built and tuned to Fi specs to get the most out of the BTL.
