replacement tweeters for my 6.5 PG Rsd's

Recommended Posts

Posted this on Ca.com but wasn't getting to much helpful attention

My right tweeter made an early exit. I replaced it with an Ifinity Reference I had laying around. Needless to say, the whole fronstage stinks. Looking to replace the tweeters with somewhat of an upgrade (if possible). Id say $50-$60 max would be the highest id like to spend on a pair of tweets that would pair well with the existing speakers. Someone mentioned the Blaupunkt Vc100's but I cannot find them anywhere.

Thanks for the help

Going to need new crossovers unless you find exact replacements

for your budget id say your only option is to buy another set or save up and get something better.

if you decide to get another set make sure your paying attention to things. i use to run the rsd's and i could tell when they where getting to much power.

I mean ill spend the money on a new GOOD set. I like these RSD and on my Alpine digi amp its been really good clean power. And yes the tweets definitely let you know when they got dirty. They have lasted a year so im decently happy.

I was thinking these Polk Momo Comps....

or these..

What do you guys think?

Appreciate the help and after seeing the difference one crappy tweeter, I am a big believer of having GOOD quality stuff in the frontstage.

I am a firm believer in having a great front stage. They make the world. That is why I have had so many because I am never satisfied. And I still haven't found one that has amazed me. But you get what you pay for IN SOME aspects.

I have had alpine type-r, infinity, CDT audio, and now pg rsd65cs like what you had. I also had a tweeter blow and it kind of screws up everything. And I just ended up buying a new comp set.

However I am reverting back to CDT audio because I miss the clarity, loudness, and people were always amazed at how loud it got. Running only 75rms to them before but now have an amp that can send 200rms to it but will set the gains for 125rms just to have enough headroom.

So take a look at CDT I believe they have great stuff. And have been satisfied. Just my opinion. I really want to buy the HD series but 450 for them it is kind of a lot.

I like reading about components and what is the best bang for the buck. So hopefully someone has some of those and can write about them in here.

I owned CDT aswell and to be honest my PG definitely seemed alot better. BUT, my issue with CDT is that is so many damn models...God knows what I had lol.. thanks for the input.

Not surprised, I've never been impressed by the CDT's.

Budget would help narrow down recommendations...

Yeah, the tweeters and bass response didn't impress me in my setup. But they weren't the top of the line CDT's.. Ohwell I'm fine with and up to 200$ for a pair of good comps...But obviously, if I can spend 150$ on a great pair and improve on performance from where I am at now...Id consider that money well spent.

Thanks M5 Seems like your always helping me.

when ppl start talking 200 bucks i think its time to start looking active alittle bit. that being said i've never used anything more expensive then the rsd's. which i later ran active before upgrading drivers. but probably the best idea would be good deadening job on doors, get them sealed up and i guarantee you a better sounding front stage.

Got the deadner checked off. As far as going active, I really have no want to do so. I am very pleased with my setup now for what I use it for. Having better speakers with better tweeters would be more then enough on my plate. It's something ive considered but didn't want to get involved.

Have you heard anything anywhere that you like? If not, what didn't you like about the RsD's?

Honestly, the Rsd's have been great ( in low response and the tweets). Especially for what I paid for them. Just seemed a bit better all around from what ive owned in the previous.

If they have been great another pair could be in order.

I agree, if you like something enough, and it's reasonaby priced, go for it again.

I have people come into our shop and they will put in a set of MB Quarts that they bought from us 10 years ago, just because the like the speakers.

$85 bucks, well within your budget.

Well said, but i think we all know I can do better especially if i drop $150 or more. Don't get me wrong, id like to change it up AND get something better. That's my question to you, what do you think I could take a look at? Just want to view my options. Because its been over a year since ive changed anything in my car...Almost feel like im itching to so something.

And let me add on to what I said before. I have only owned a short list of comp speakers, most of which were nothing special. Partly the reason for wanting something more of the mid to upper level cost and performance.

Perhaps, but if they have no deficiencies what would you then make better?

The type of music I listen to and settings that I adjust to point to the tweeter area mainly. Deadening my doors made a significant difference but really didn't give me the wow factor. I always seem to pay very close attention to the higher freq.... if it seems off for the particular song, ill always adjust my eq.

Ive heard better sounding front stages then mine, where the tweeters are loud but concise and smooth. I think that's what Id like for you to help me find some choices besides what I have now.

imo the best way to go from here is active. the speakers are cheaper, easier to replace, higher quality for the price, and more diverse in selection. you may find better highs from a new set of comps but the low end may suffer and visa versa. then again you might just need to play around with the aiming of your tweeters or woofers.
