IB/Ported

This is just something i have been wondering since i found out how a ported box works. I know that IB separates the front wave from the back. And I know that a port acts somewhat like another speaker above and at tuning. But what if you were to build a ported box, and seal off the port from the front wave entirely. like, the woofers face forward, and the port faces the trunk but you seal off the baffle from the trunk entirely.

I googled it, but came up with nothing.

Then you would lose the WHOLE benefit of porting the box.

I saw it done once, cept subs back, ports forward.

Dumb idea. The car was louder with the trunk open.

By "won't work" what are you referring to and what are you trying to accomplish.

In your case you take a ported box and remove the benefit of the port by not allowing it to meet the front wave. What isn't clear about that?

I'm not trying to accomplish anything. I was simply curious. Now that it has been clarified, this thread is done.

Actually there won't be any cancellation because the rear wave would be separated from the front.

It would be some sort of abomination where you would only get response where the sub is moving, which is not around tuning. So I think basically it would be like putting a subsonic filter on the sub about 10 hz above the tuning frequency of the port.

depending on which you allow to enter the cabin... if you model up the sub in WinISD, going to "vent gain" will show you what you would get if you allowed the port to fire into the cabin. subtract the port gain from the total plot, should be what you would get with the subs firing in.

I think I understand your curiosity here, if you allowed the port to be blocked off, yes you should have a different responce than a sealed box... desireable? IDK...
