Opinions on what to run

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone I am wanting to build a system for my car. Im not sure what to run yet. I have a 2002 monte carlo, and I was looking at maybe 2 15" FI BTL's. I also seen the SSA XCON 15's as well. This car is a daily driver and I want something that I can listen to daily, but I also want it to be really loud and haev good sound quality. Help is very much appreciated..

No need for two different topics about the same thing. All subwoofers in the right enclosure will get loud and have good sound quality and if installed right. What is your budget on subs, on amps, do you have and upgraded electrical system, the list goes on? Those are the questions that you need to answer before someone can give you some good advice, go out and look at subwoofers and make a list of the ones in your budget and come back to us if you still cant decide. Read new member guidelines before posting again, thankx.

My appoliges on the double post and for not reading the newbies plz read post. As for budget on subs Im looking to spend around $700-800 for the pair of subs and around $800 -900 for the amps. For the electrical system I will be upgrading my alternator, adding an extra battery, all 0-1 gauge wire and any other nessecary needs. I want the box to be ported. Im not dead set on 2 subs i would do 1 if I can get it to where I want. Im not super smart on all the car audio stuff , but what is the big3? Thanks.

Its upgrading these three wires with 1/0AWG:

1. Engine Block/Alternator Bolt to Car's Frame (-)

2. Battery Negative Post to Car's Frame (-)

3. Battery Positive Post to Alternator's Positive Post (+)

ummm 2 15s going to have some problems fitting in the trunk, given your using at least 3.5^ft a sub. also what kind of music do you listen to, i ask cause this helps in what your calling sq.

What is the max dimensions of the enclosure you can build? This will weed out a few drivers to choose from. And the most important, instead of throwing the driver you want in the wrong enclosure.

If your post is about choosing between drivers like 15" BTLs and Xcons, then you arent looking for SQ. You want to be loud.

Your right I do want it to be really loud not really have sound quality. I have had four 12s in there and the box measured 34x34x14 and it was built out of 3/4" wood.. I think that is about 7.11 cubic feet, I could be wrong though. I also had 1 15" l7 in there and the height of the box was fine. There is also still some room to grow, I could proabally go as big a 8 cubic feet.. Im not dead set on 2 15's. I would considers 2 12's as long as it can get me to where I want it to. I do listen to it everyday as well. The music that I listen to is mostly rap, like lil wayne, haystack, young jeezy, ying yang twins and so on the help is very much appreciated.

Your right I do want it to be loud not really have sound quality, as for the enclosure I have had it checked and I can fit a 10 cubic foot box in the trunk. I have had four 12s in there using a 6 cubic foot box and there was still tons more room to move it around and there wasn't much problem to get it in. Im not dead set on 2 15s. I would considers 1 as long as it can get me to where I want it to. I do listen to it everyday as well. If you really think you can fit up to a 10ft3 enclosure, then why not get an 18" BTL? Or maybe a DC level5? Maybe even a 15" Warden! You dont need all the space but it depends on how much power you have going to it.

I agree with bigrank916, get a single 15" or 18" in a optimal ported enclosure with plenty of power to it. I've heard a BTL in an optimal ported enclosure sound like it was gonna tear threw the trunk of a caddy. btw- your gonna need to upgrade your front stage to even be able and hear any vocals.

So I should be good with 1 15" BTL in a optimal ported enclosure. My question is what is a optimal ported enclosure. I plan on running about 2000-2500 watt rms on the sub. I am going to upgrade everything up front as well and run all of my highs and mids off of an amp to. I will have and extra battery and a bigger alternator as well.

I would go with the 5ft^3 tuned to 30-35Hz or whatever your preference is, just my .02

A good starting point could be 5ft3 enclosure tuned to 32hz.
