Building my first system

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm planning on building my first system and I am wondering what specifications I should get on my FI 15'' BTL. I want to get it to 1 ohm, so would I go with dual 1 or dual 2? I am going to buy an AudioQue 2200D, it is 1 ohm stable. I am going to do the Big 3 once I buy a new HO alternator. Any tips and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome.

you would buy a dual 2 and wire it to 1 ohm

As for the options on the sub they can be read at there website and you can determine if you want to have them (I would recommend them)

Voice coils wired in parallel will give you a 1 ohm load with a dual 2 ohm driver. I would do all the big 3 in 1/0 wire. Lots of people use welding cable also as it is a bit cheaper and works just as well. You should do the big 3 now so when you install the h/o alt, you can guage the difference of voltage drops at high volumes. Do you have a h/o alt already picked out?

Btw, welcome dude.

Alright thank you guys, I will go with the Dual 2 and I was planning on getting P Chamfer and HiXmCoil.

I have not started looking at any alternators yet.

Does anyone know if the AudioQue amps are reliable? I have done research on them and have only heard good things, especially for the price that they are. Again it's the AudioQue 2200D.

Yes AudioQue is a very good brand

Get the cooling option instead of the P chamber because the cooling includes it

As for alternators look into Iraggi, DC..

Here are a few great companies to start with. They might be a little pricey but are well worth it. You can search countless threads where someone rebuilt theirs or bought from a lesser known brand and was not satisfied.

sounds like your on the right track. the audioque is a great amp!!! Have you looked into more powerful batteries yet? It would be in your best interest to invest in one. I would recommend the kinetik HC2400 myself...

As for alternators, i would see if Iraggi has one compatible with your vehicle. I haven't read a single bad comment about their alternators and they are competitively priced. May i ask what you are doing for a box? Build your own or oder a custom? Also, as above posters stated, you are starting big!!! I wish i did that myself, would have saved a lot of money!

Thank you bigfrank for the Alternator sites.

I am planning on building a 5 cubic foot ported box. For the subwoofer placement would you guys recommend facing it towards the cabin of the vehicle or facing it backwards toward the license plate or maybe even upward? I currently have a 1999 Nissan Maxima but I may be getting a SUV around Christmas.

No problem.

Driver placement is totally different in each vehicle. You just have to see what sounds best to you. Hope for an SUV for Christmas as you will love the BTL in there!

Dual 2 ohm subwoofer wired in parallel for a 1 ohm load:

1_2ohm_dvc_1ohm.gif

Get a voltmeter to watch your voltage, a HO Alternator and nice size 100AH battery and you will be good to go. Also make sure you do your Big Three Wiring.

I would try to go sub up and port back since you will be getting an SUV since those usually work out the best unless you want to do some testing to find out what design would be better.

Thank you again everyone, you have all been very helpful I appreciate it.

For an enclosure I like the looks of a kerf ported 5 cubic foot box. Does anyone know if these are difficult to build? Or would you recommend a different type of enclosure?

Building your own enclosure is a great experience and in my opinion, the way to go. The reason for saying this is because you can come up with your own custom design that no one else has, that is once you've got the hang of it. Just ask questions and get the needed info on the how 2s and you will enjoy it, but be carefull because its addictive. trink40.gif
