interior lights dim when bass hits in new car

Recommended Posts

The car is a Mercedes CLK55 2001, I have 2 amps 1 is 300 watts(150x2@4ohm), one is 1300 watts (1x1300@1ohm). For a total of 1600 watts. I have a Kinetik Power HC1800 as a second battery witch is to NOT let the lights dim if the system is under 1800 watts, unfortunately it does dim in the cabin and the amp for my front speakers sorta cuts out at loud volumes. once when i went from drive to reverse it didn't engauge and i had to put it in drive lower my system and put it in reverse, this has only happened once and i was beating really hard (i have not tried this again nor do i want to). I had a lexus 2002 ES300 before this and i did not have this problem, same setup. The 2nd battery I was told acts like a cap as it discharges fast (could of been lied to). My stock battery is in the trunk and it is huge wire from the battery to the front.

Is the only option I have is to get a custom spun alternator? not even sure if i can.

What do you think of the 100 farad batcap 300? cost is under $150

Could it be another problem that I don't know of or though of?

Any help would be great and Thanks for the support.

have you done a BIG 3 upgrade yet?? That's a must do, period. Whether you have or not, sounds like a grounding issue... are all your amps grounded to the same point? is your second battery in the rear? make sure everything in the back is grounded at the same point, make sure that ground is good, check all connections at the battery's, chassis, amps, etc....

I'm pretty sure it's just some bad connections/grounds causing the problems....

Also, the Kinetic isn't a cap or anything like one.... it's a battery with a very low internal resistance which allows it to deliver large amounts of current very quickly....

Did you check out the voltage on the battery when things cut off? And so you have two batteries in the trunk, a stock and a kinetik?

Hmm that shouldn't be dimming at all. Check your grounds. Make sure it hits bare metal, and if it is not then sand it down to bare metal. Also do the Big 3 to increase current to the back battery and amp.
