Punch bass

I have an older Rockford 1100@2 amp with a remote gain bass knob. The cable for the knob has long since disapeared. I have used a telephone cord in the past but not sure if I am getting all of the gain. The knob has 6 wires for the pot, whereas, the phone cord only has 4 wires in the connector. The knob is rated 0-18 db slope at 45 hertz. Any help is appreciated

the fone cord will not work for the 6 pin cables, u will have to go to a local shop or try to find one online.

If the remote controls the 0-18 db @ 45 hz deal, that's a bass boost knob, not a gain. In that case I wouldn't use it.

Actually yes it does, it is not a good thing to use bass boost. There are plenty of post on why it is not good to use, OP if you want to understand why not then make a search under this thread to see why not. Your are good without it, if it was a remote gain knob then you would need it.

Before I read how to properly set amp gain (from this forum). I had a Phoenix Gold Ms1000 that had a bass boost knob and an led for clipping. It seemed I could turn the bass knob up and the led light would come on. I didn't know much back then and I didn't really understand clipping was bad, but I just loved how the bass was soooo awesome I left it with a pretty much full on clip. Needless to say I was driving down the road one day and my system stopped. I went back to check it out and I saw my beloved amp on fire. Turns out The amp was so starved for power it got too hot and pooof. Possibly from both incorrect gain setting and bass knob fun. I thought since I had the Rockford amp laying around I may try to sell it and wanted the package to be complete. I have thought about using it but I think I will search the forum for the pros and cons of bass knobs. Thanks for all the replies guys!

I've got a power 500m in my work truck, running a pair of 12's i have my bass remote turned all the way up, and it's been like this for 3 yrs without even one problem, so i guess something must be wrong with it the amp. becasue it's still working lol and i've had serveral rockford amps and never had a problem or even blown a sub, but i do know how to control the volume knob!!!!!!! I hate it when people blame the equipment instead of themselves.

I agree. Most people blame the equipment if they dont fully understand how to control their use of the equipment, there are a lot of people in the car audio industry who dont understand a speaker will do what you tell it to do. Dont get me wrong, my friend uses bass boost and has for the past three years also and didnt want to turn it off. Yes it does make your bass louder and hit harder but does that mean it is good for the speaker (it depends on the application, setup and user). I think people need to learn more about what they put in there car and if you touch this knob or setting what it affects instead of touching it and see what happens overtime. Yeah I finally got my friend to turn the bass boost off and he is still in love with his setup and acutally likes it better know since the bass is more cleaner.
