NS v1 vs NS v2

Recommended Posts

Sundown Team,

I am looking at the forum about this but I can't seem to find any article discussion the difference between the two good sub aside from its RMS.

Thanks

Pretty much everything... motor is all new design, coil is all new design as well.

Suspension will remain pretty well the same, though, as the Nightshade suspension was capable of handling far more than the rated 1500 RMS.

The v.1 uses a 42mm coil from the original run... and later we changed to a 50mm coil.

The v.2 will use a 71mm long coil... plus cooling based on our "Monster" prototype so I expect dramatically higher thermal power handling.

Nightshade v.2 = 2000-watt RMS model

* ETA is mid 2010 (maybe sooner)

Only thing I could find: very large voice coil with more mass , higher power handling, stiffer suspension than zv2's (built to order, can go with a softer suspension)

Oops, a bit too late.

SWEET! can't remember if you said before, but what kinda ETA are you shooting for on the V2 Jacob? I know it will be nothing exact, but always nice to have an idea.

btw: JAW DROPPED when I read 71mm

I expect the prototype motor soon for the v.2 Nightshade... depends on how testing goes and how close it is to my simulations.

2000 RMS is conservative for the Nightshade v.2 -- it is taking power handling to a whole new level from the v.1 model.

The Z v.2, on the other hand, was designed to do the most possible with it's rated 1500 watts... I've broken a 150 with 1500 clamped watts on the prototype model already !

Nice to hear all the new things about the nsv2, now it's worth waiting .......

Thanks for the information guys. Now what will I do with my nsv1? :ehh:

What is the difference in music and performance between soft and hard suspension?

I do not suggest getting an overly hard spider for anyone... SPL or daily.

The Z v.2 suspension will be much softer than the NS v.1 -- the NS v.2 will be almost identical to the NS v.1 stiffness -- it is more than stiff enough for 99% of applications.

are you going to offer a recone from the v1 to the v2?

The coil is compatible... so yah, we can re-cone the v.1 with the v.2 coil.

HUH? never thought of that, what will be the result if you use nsv2 coil to your nsv1?

lol i didnt think it was possible to get more awesome-er than the v1, i will def have to send it in for the new coil soon. do u kno about when i would be able to? like would i have to wait till the v2 comes out?

... but seriously -- the new coil would make it handle more power.

By how much power? and how much will it cost for a 12"?

I have sample v.2 coils being made now... few weeks.

alright kool, hopefully i can do it before my license suspension is up lol

What are the chances of you getting a couple made out of copper ? ;-) Just in case down the road I want to change these to D2 and add a 2nd 3000D.

A coil this long out of copper would be way too heavy, IMO... so I don't think I would do it. Maybe a shorter version.

So do you think a shorter version could be done to be close to the FS of my v1 coils? If so, would it still have a higher power handling?
