SS compared to SI 15"

Recommended Posts

I would like to get a sub to replace my Stereo Integrity 15". I love the sub, but it is a little too low for my taste, i am more into rock.

so the questions is how would 2 rl-p 12" compare to my 15" D2? sq wise and loudness wise. I am really liking the price and really considering buying 2 if stack up to what i want.

thanks,

Travis

that is hard to answer, since the RL-p is designed with different goals in mind than the MAG, and I own a RL-p and tested a new MAG,

both are excellent subwoofers, I am not going to try to sway you one way or the other, both have top end customer service and build quality,

weeeellllllll...

the 2 12's would be louder, in theory, due to displacement. but enclosure will play a big part. bad thing is, lol, the rl-p's can and will get nasty low. but they will sound damn fine doing it.

i currently have the new MAG proto in my truck, and it does like it low.

but for what ur after, i think the rl-p's will be a great choice. but like denim said, both are good subs with good ppl behind them.

but i vote rl-p.

well i liike my D2, and i prob would get a new one, but they aren't coming out till mid to end of next month :( and i would like something now.

What is the RL-p's goal, cause i know that D2 is both loud and sq, but i would chooose more sq and pretty loud over really loud and less sq.

In all the times I have been able to talk to Mike, he has never once given the impression that SPL is his goal, he is going after building some of the most solid drivers that can be made and attain uncompromised sound quality, if the subs get loud that is a nice addition,

Nick Lemons, who is also top notch with customer service, set out to build an amazing driver with audiophile level SQ, no holes barred, but with the ability to get brutally loud and have excellent linear control and excursion,

personally I feel both guys surpassed their goal, I own an RL-p because it was an awesome deal for a top end SQ driver, and thats what I want it to be, a daily SQ sub that is going to make me have a stupid grin on my face every time I listen to it, I really really want to save up some cash and order a pair of MAG's and run an obxnious amount of power to them and run them in my truck where I can watch them dismantle it, I think they have some serious potential,

yes they are both excellent drivers, but each have their own abilities, they come from different build houses, both have excellent motors, the RL-p using TC's flagship TC9, and the MAG using a custom tooled motor,

I hope that helps, sorry but I love both speakers

the rl-p is designed to get loud and sound amazing doing it. and it accomplishes that job well. it isn't designed to be the loudest sub on the planet though.

denim is mostly right.(only wrong in the idea that the rl-p is an sq only driver) IMO, the rl-p is one of the finest sql drivers u can own. and i've heard/owned/played with some of the best...including teh SI proto mag in my truck at this moment.

no..for two reasons. first, it's a 15 (SI proto) vs 12 (rl-p). because of that i can't use the same boxes.

second, the proto has a bit of motor damage due to the chroming process, which at higher power levels lets itself be known.

if i could get ahold of the proto 12, u betcha it would happen!

Kent, I know that you would take care of my sub as I would yours. I would be happy to send you my mag when it comes in for a week or so. It is the 12" version and will be the production model not the Proto. Let me know if you are interested. Hell, maybe I could take a few days off and drive up there and we can have fun terorizing your neiborhood with the solox, mag, and the RL-P :woot:
