ported is many times more efficient than sealed. So noticeable in fact a quick box swap from sealed to ported using same sub can be easily noticeable in the pressure increase.

For the human ear to distinguish it immediately shows just how much of a difference a ported design is.

An average rule.. not so much for every design but think for every 2 subs sealed will equal 1 sub ported. There is no exact science here but to expect 4 15s sealed should reach(notice how i said reach instead of equal or surpass) the output capability of 2 15s ported... but there are other factors such as power that can greatly effect this guessing game.

IT's getting pretty easy nowadays to break a 150 with 2 15s for a comp box but 4 15s sealed... that's an interesting challenge.. Most people wouldnt do it because it's wasted money.

Im TOOOO familiar with the efficiency of ported boxes and their higher output over sealed, since most people i know run pre-fabed ported boxes..... jux have never ran ported personally because i havent had the time to build one and i dont like the sound of the pre-fabs...though a custom ported design is going to be my next project.

I haven't competed in any events (maybe in the future but nothing serious)... jux mainly street bass and friendly street competition...but i do plan on at least metering my next system...

And yea i dont doubt that 2 15's ported will at least get loud as 4 sealed....i have a friend running a pair of HCCA 10's ported in a eclipse and it easily beat my 4 12's sealed as as far as output in the upper range....but 4 15s trunked was mainly more of a personal challenge than anything....that's why it isnt first on my list...

My main goal for my next system is to get low and loud ( while retaining sq)...

I am all for saving money and making every watt i run efficient as possible so thats why i am stepping into the ported world first....

Thnx,

Breeze

And ill be keeping in touch with SSA since people here seem to know the do's and dont's of car audio....and hopefully i can learn more as i go...

Presait the help.....

Welcome to the ported world clap.gif !

I'm in, and I love it.

BTW : I did not know how to design a ported box, so I just ordered a custom design from Fisher customs, and it works great.

Now, I order a new design for each box, and it is serious work, you can't go wrong with them!

All of those subs have weaksauce suspension. Youre tuning low to get low response which kills your high. You tune around 35hz and youre going to lose your low becasue the sub isnt using the box to compensate its suspension.

I had this porblem with my Type R. Ran 22hz slammed low. Tons of flex but would hit anything about 45hz and above. Built a new box to 33hz and it did much better on the high bass. I peaked at 42 hz and my response was best between 60hz and 35hz. It really would lose strength low because the sub didnt have the suspension to push the low.

Sold the R. Bought a Z15. MUCH stronger motor and suspension. Tuned my box to 35hz and it has response similar to both boxes.

So basically pick which bass youd rather have or get a stronger sub.
