15 L7 spl enclosure

Recommended Posts

I currently have my 15 L7 mounted in a 1.5ft.^3 sealed enclosure powered by a RF Power 1001db 1000watts @ 2ohm in my brothers semi truck it's a international 9400i with a bunk bed sleeper, it has mb quarts 6.5 components up front and 5.25 coaxial in the rear powered by a zapco ag360 with a clarion dxz 575 head unit. My goal is to get real loud and maybe enter competition in the future and upgrading to two L7's or even 2 fi 15 bl's and space is not problem. i listen ti wide range of music but mostly reggae, hip-hop, r&b, rap, pop, and some classics, its my first time building a ported box but i have experience in building sealed, so it would helpful if you guys could help me out with the enclosure volume turned to what frequency with the port area and should the sub displacement be subtracted from the volume or is it included. Sub facing up or forward and should the port be facing in the same direction, do i need to brace the enclosure, Thanks guys!!!!

You tune a box, by building a port and dictating the length of the port. This site will help you with most of your needs, and also read up on the stickies on SSA. http://www.bcae1.com/

The biggest size recommended by the company, and tuning can start at 35Hz and up but it depends on your vehicles peak which takes lots of testing (so nobody can tell you, its all subjective and install dependent since every car is different).

These are from Kicker:

Frequency Response (Hz) 18-100

Max Rec Vented Box Volume (CU. Ft., Liters)** 6.0, 169.9

If you want nothing but SPL and dont care about the lows, then try a 5 ft3 box, tuned between 40-45hz. There wont be much sound quality but it will get plenty loud.

I would also say fairly large. 4.5 seems decent, maybe even 5. 35 hz is about as high as I'd want to go to get SPL while retaining at least some semblance of musicality.

sub and port displacements are added to the net figure recommended. So if sub is .15 cubes, port is 1 cube, and you want a 4.5 cube enclosure, you need to build a box with 5.65 cubes internally.

the port should be 12 in.^2 per ft.^3 so that would be 60 in.^2 for a 5 ft.^3 enclosure tuned to 35hz

I read it twice, is this new box going in your bothers semi?

or ...........is it going in your Golf?

your thread is titled, SPL ENCLOSURE ,yet you mentioned listening to multiple genres of music.....

one would be led to assume that if you are looking at representing the variety of bass notes found in these different styles of music, you are not looking for a pure SPL enclosure.

Generally speaking, a Spl enclosure is tuned high..... reproducing accurate bass notes from multiple styles of music would typically require a lower tuned enclosure.

If you are using the semi, space is no problem, then i am tunned into this one.....

i just read the post again....

who is getting the new install, you or your brother.... the semi or the golf?

sorry ,

confused
