Sundown Amplifier Bench Tests

Recommended Posts

Was just thinking about where the future of Sundown Audio was heading. It seems to me the company is growing and becoming more and more popular. (correct if I'm wrong) At some point in time I am assuming there will be a need for a new larger warehouse or building, and plans on incorporating standard Bench Tests for all amplifiers?

Of course I, as most of the people on the forum know what the ability is of Sundown amps, getting bench results with the amp is always a nice little extra. :)

I personally would rather go buy my own clamps(which I will be soon) and do my own bench testing so I know the number is accurate and not just 1 out of 10 or a 100. I dont see the purpose of bench testing if there is not going to be one performed on every amp and that will be a waste to me to bench test every amp, just my .02

the whole point would be to test each individual amp, as rockford, zapco, arc, and so many others do. Like I said, to me and most people on this forum, we are not really going to care.

so many people always seem to be interested in the power output of the sundowns, and the power testing threads get so much attention, it just makes me think how well it can actually help Sundown grow and expand into the market. Like I said though I have no idea what Jacob's vision is of the future of Sundown or anything, just throwing it out there.

good input as usual Jay-Cee! this is one of those I would be back and forth on myself, if it were my company....

I personally do think it is a good idea but very time consuming especially if you have the track record to prove it, but to me thats where that extra 400 dollars goes to when buying those amps over Sundown (paying for them just to bench test my amp, bs in my book). But as far as advertising and marketing gimicks for the public who dont really know to much about car audio would love it. The things that put me on to Sundown at the end of the day is the underrated power it puts out at 12 volts, if people understand how car audio, voltage and the electrical system goes then they will appreciate Sundown how me, you and others do. fing05.gif

I really don't plan to bench test each and every amp -- that is a bit of a gimmick to me. It wouldn't make sense for me to hire someone to stand there all day and do that when I could take the same money and make products better :)

X2

I wouldn't bother bench testing all of them either.. Save the money and invest it in something more worthwhile..

x3. Who cares if the 3000d puts out 3418 watts or 3397 or whatever the individual case may be. They're all going to perform basically the same as the testing Jacob did in his vehicle with those amps. Plus it's a useless number anyways, since it's taken at a specific voltage with a specific load, and 99% of the time in your vehicle you will be at neither that specific voltage or load.

that's the answer was looking for, thanks Jacob! BTW I'm ordering a new alty this weekend since current one took a crapper today, so I will be ready to move forward with a few more 1500d's hopefully by Xmas. Can't wait for fedex on friday though :)

You might be able to find someone to do that for free! Im sure there is somebody on this forum sitting at home, without a job, bored as hell!

it would make more since to get it clamped in your car with your enclosure and electrical.

WTF?

Ohh...sense. That was throwing me off.

x2, thats what I said. So you will know what your amp is doing on your electrical with your setup and not no one else's, this will be the true test of what your amp is putting out in the real world (since every install is different and Jacobs test is not how your install will be ran so the numbers wont really be beneficial until you see how it does on your setup). Just my .02

Considering there is no standard for testing which then opens the door for biased testing practices I am personally not a fan of this as a gimic. I am not at all implying that Jacob would walk a funny line, but what he competes against surely would and having people buy something else based on a bullshit test sucks. I'd much rather see the money go into product development.
