Recommended Posts

i got my sub from the groupbuy, it has about 2-3 hrs playing time already and every so often i would up the gains little by little, so today when i was setting the gains higher again i notice that the sub sounded like it was bottoming out. I was in the back facing the trunk so i'm looking at the sub playing "throw it up" by lil jon and at certian parts the sub sounded like poooop instead of boooom. It was when the sub had to move more out. is that bad, is there a problem? the gains was almost at max.

:+1:

I got mine in a 1.25 sealed am feeding it with an Orion 1200d, it will take everything that amp has to offer up to clipping and sound great doing it. There is a great thread on setting amp gains in the amplifier section, follow that and you will be set :fing34: . Beware, you will find yourself wanting a bigger amp just to see what this bad boy will do :domoslay:

hmm, ok. what does clipping the amp mean? i have to admit even when it was bumping it didn't seem to get all that loud compared to my old setup. (2 audiobahn1200x so 300watts to each) When i bought this sub I thought it would be great form all the reviews but i guess i over expected it, or either that my amp or electrical system has problems

as for setting the amp gains are you talking about this?

Sticky: Gain Setting Tutorial

http://www.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=63933

gains would be sqrt(600x1) = 24.49 ???

thanks for all the quick replys and help

btw: if your willing to give me 1on1 help i'm on aim : itzme218 thanks

I'm going to turn the gain down, i think i have a lot of voltage drop.

I have it wired at 1ohms, should i try it at 4ohms? amp-JBLbp600.1

That is the right tutorial, it will explain what clipping is in the first couple pages. If you dropped from 2 subs to 1, you just lost about 6 db's and that would explain your lacking on the volume, but as far as over expecting, just listen to the clarity from the SS. I am willing to bet that both your old subs together didn't give the low level detail you can get from this thing, I have never had a sub that was so detailed. Mine has about 6 hours at this point, my gain is between half and 3/4's set to the number i derived from that little formula, and I still can't stop grinnin'. I had a trio of 10's at one point that was louder, but no where near the quality of sound I have now.

yeah, i do admit it has very good sq and does get rather low...playing that throw it up sounded pretty good but just not as much pressure as b4

Chalk that off on losing a driver. For every sub you add you pick about 6 db gain. Doubling your amp power will net about 3 db's. You could easily double your amp power in your setup if you set it up by that tutorial, or, you could go for a ported box and pick up some db's there as well.
