spl box for bl 10

Recommended Posts

hey, im thinking about building a pretty loud setup with just 1 bl 10. its gonna be for competition use only, just for the hell of it lol. its already in a good daily box...but i kinda want to build a burp box since i have 3/4 of a sheet of mdf laying around...im just kinda lost at what to tune it to. ik im supposed to tune high, but how high? i have no idea of what my car peaks at tho, since i dont have anybody around here that uses a termlab. i am using a hifonics 1610d and will b running at 2 ohms on it so about 1200 watts is what the amp puts out. it will be a box for competitions only, so if anybody has any ideaso of what to tune it to that would be great. also, its going into a 2003 ford focus zx3. thanx alot.

Every car is different. You are going to have to try a few. I'd start with near the max box volume and an adjustable port to dial it in.

aero ports are easiest for adjustable tuning. or just round ports..

Always for the sub, not your car. Longer port equals lower tuning, if you have it external you can cut pieces off of it until you find the sweet spot. If you use PVC you can have a joint and a bunch of different pieces to plug into the joint. The whole port doesn't have to be external just make sure that the highest tuning is achievable by what is in/not in the box.

35Hz and above would be a good place to start

yea i would start low since the port will be its longest when its tuned low. so if oyu start around 30-32 hz and go up form there it should be easy. say you stick 7-10 inches of the pvc in the box and leave the rest external you can just cut off on the outside until you find the right tuning (like M5 said). just keep working it down until you find the highest peak. do you have access to a db meter for this tuning? its going to take a lot of time to find the perfect conditions and box placement and tuning and everything.

i got the "boom stick" from walmart lol, but im guessing its not very accurate...but nobody around here uses a termlab bc everyone around here sucks ass...i probably just try to see which frequency gets the best peak on my little baby meter.

as long as it's consistantly wrong it will help you with tuning... who cares if the overall number is right. just as long as you can monitor increase/decrease in output when you make changes... I used a $50 radioshack meter for three years, it wasn't perfect but good enough for tuning..

yea thats the only reason i use it...i just use it to fine tune best positions and stuff like that.

mine wasnt consistantly wrong. it was every song and tones it would go to 126.5. idk might have just been mine....
