new box for an Xcon 15"

Recommended Posts

Hi,

A friend of mine who owns an Xcon15 has just built a new box for its baby monster sub.

The old one was 3.5 cu ft at 32 Hz, and the new one is 3.7 cu ft at 32 Hz too.

Not much more volume, the double baffle upside took quite a bit of what we expected.

The new box has a kerf slot port : it's really beautiful, and was easy to do wit the design provided by Dylan.

First try : got it !!!fing05.gif

I will post pics tomorrow.peepwall.gif

Just wanted to say that the sound is different now. Don't know how to say it but it gives more low notes.

We did not expect so much change!! And we love it!!!trink40.gif

The owner had a processor(or active filter, I don't know exactly), he took it off. He turned the bass boost off too.

Just one question : the port length is way shorter in this box, and the box has quite the same exterior dimensions, for the same tuning. How can that be?

BTW : I took the "old" box for my 15" Icon : first listen is impressive on the low lows!!! I love it, but got to test it more!

Its just the dimensions that you changed altered it somehow therefor you needed a shorter port lenght thats all.

I cant want to see the pictures of this new box and your new box (the old box) and some videos. Good job on using that box to help you out.

Did port area change

The port has the same dimensions, but with the kerf it goes larger at the opening.

Net volume was 3.5 and now is 3.7 cu ft.

The owner loves it even more after a few days.

Oh, one thing : he is quite sure the processor he had was reducing the low notes : he took it off before changing box.

You can see my new box( his old one!!!) In my gallery, and as my avatar!

The kerf port box ? Pics are coming soon!!!

Here is the kerfed slot port. Quite easy to do , according to the builder (he had the design done by fishercustoms).
